Season 2 of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is the best it’s ever been: Disney+ Review

I hadn’t jumped on the Daredevil or Defenders wagon until recently, but over the past few months, I decided to fill in my blind spot and finally binge all of the original Daredevil shows, season one of Jessica Jones, and Defenders (of course in the proper timeline order), leading into finally watching the more recently released “Daredevil: Born Again” series. Boy am I glad I did. Not only was it great TV. but it prepared me to be able to review of “Daredevil: Born Again Season 2”, the best season yet.

Picking up just a bit after season one left off, Mayor Fisk has plunged New York City into mayhem by enacting his “safer streets initiative”, a state of martial law where Kingpin’s corrupted army of cops can arrest and brutalize anyone they like under the guise of being an Anti-Vigilante Task Force.

This season marks the return of a few other vigilantes previously seen alongside Daredevil, notably Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, who seems to have mysterious ties to Matthew Lillard’s new character, Mr. Charles. After catching up with her this season I’d love to see her return again, hopefully in a similar way to the Punisher’s upcoming one-off special.

Daredevil season two has much higher stakes. Season one was regarded as a bit slow by many, but it perfectly set the stage for what came next.

A friend of mine previously told me he hadn’t enjoyed the first season because of its lack of action sequences. I’m happy to say because of that, I took notes, and only a single episode this season lacked that action, and what that instance lacked in punching, it made up for by being extremely tense. Fans of both sides of Matthew Murdock, as Daredevil, and as a really good lawyer, will be pleased with both the action and the courtroom drama this season.

This season is also the most brutal the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever been. Not only are there graphic fight scenes that often show the gore that most Marvel shows and movies shy away from, but the subject matter of this season draws a mirror to some of the events happening in the world today. Some elements are such powerful parallels, that I was brought to tears and realized, my god they’re really going there …
