Located between Chicago and Milwaukee, Six Flags Great America spans 300 acres and features 17 roller coasters, live entertainment, and family-friendly attractions, along with Hurricane Harbor Chicago water park. The park’s 50th Anniversary Celebration will take place June 20 through Aug. 9, honoring five decades of thrills and family memories since the park first opened as Marriott’s Great America in 1976.

“Fifty years of Six Flags Great America is a celebration of the millions of memories made in our park,” said park manager Hardeep Lall. “This anniversary season is designed to honor our history while offering new ways for guests to experience the park they’ve loved for decades.”

New Nighttime Spectacular and Entertainment

A highlight of the Six Flags Great America 50th anniversary celebration will be an all-new nighttime spectacular, described as “the most ambitious in the park’s history.” The experience will combine a high-energy stage show, a nighttime parade with new floats, and a drone show on select nights from Friday through Sunday.

Throughout the park, additional live entertainment will take guests on a journey through the decades, with music, costumes, and performances inspired by each era from the 1970s to today.

Step Back in Time with Nostalgic Experiences

Guests looking to revisit the park’s history will be able to explore a new Legacy Museum inside the Emporium. The exhibit will feature archival photos, historic artifacts, retired signage, and memorabilia from both employees and fans, celebrating key moments from the past 50 years.

Classic experiences will also return, including a reimagined Ice Cream Parlor in Hometown Square, inspired by the park’s opening year. Guests can expect nostalgic flavors and classic treats reminiscent of summers in the late 1970s.

Across the park, themed photo opportunities and anniversary décor will highlight iconic attractions and moments, giving guests a chance to recreate memories or capture new ones.

Limited-time Offerings

The Great America 50th anniversary celebration will also include specialty food and beverage offerings inspired by the park’s history, including classic root beer and other limited-time menu items.
