Six Flags Over Texas announces new Pirates of Speelunker Cave ride set to debut in 2022
In celebration of its 60th anniversary, Six Flags Over Texas announced a brand-new ride: Pirates of Speelunker Cave. This themed attraction will debut early 2022.
Pirates of Speelunker Cave is a boat ride that will feature animatronics and a combination of both digital and physical sets. The brand-new ride will place guests right in the middle of a pirate treasure hunt foiled by speelunkers.
“As the world’s first regional theme park, Six Flags Over Texas has built a solid reputation of providing innovative thrills and lifelong memories for generations of families,” said Six Flags Over Texas Park President Ron McKenzie. “What better way to celebrate our park’s 60th anniversary than by announcing a brand-new attraction that pays homage to our past and launches us into the future.”
This new attractions re-imagines an original Six Flags Over Texas attraction: The Cave, which operated from 1964 to 1991. Pirates of Speelunker Cave will also replace the current Yosemite Sam and the Gold River Adventure.
Aquaman: Power Wave (left) and Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger (right) are also set to debut at Six Flags Over Texas in 2022.
Both Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor Arlington are open daily now through Aug. 15. Beginning Sept. 11, Fright Fest returns to Six Flags Over Texas on select days.

The spelunker’s cave was magical when I was growing up. It was truly one of my favorite attractions. When I came a few years ago with my family, I was so sad not to be able to share it with my family. This is great news! I am so excited.
