Georgia, New Jersey Six Flags parks delay roller coasters
Six Flags has delayed the openings of two roller coasters previously announced to debut in 2024. Georgia Surfer at Six Flags Over Georgia in Austell and The Flash: Vertical Velocity at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township, N.J. will now both open in 2025.

Six Flags announced the roller coasters’ delays via social media on Aug. 12, 2024.
We are thrilled with the successful launch of new festivals and live entertainment this year, including an upcoming Fright Fest that’s sure to be more horrifying than ever.
When it comes to delivering fun and safe attractions, we won’t rush the construction process. That means we’re moving the official grand opening of Georgia Surfer to 2025.
Our team is working diligently to address construction and supply changes, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. We’re confident it will be worth the wait.

Six Flags Great Adventure
Georgia Surfer at Six Flags Over Georgia
First announced in 2023, Georgia Surfer at Six Flags Over Georgia will forego the traditional roller coaster train vehicle in favor of a circle-shaped platform that independently spins while positioned on top of a surfboard-shaped structure that travels along a track. Riders will travel forward and backward, gliding along a splash zone on the way. Intamin is manufacturing Georgia Surfer.

The park refers to the coaster as a “splash coaster” and an “ultra surf coaster” (no relation to, and a different manufacturer than, SeaWorld Orlando’s Pipeline: The Surf Coaster.)
Six Flags fans selected the Georgia Surfer roller coaster’s name in a vote.
The Flash: Vertical Velocity at Six Flags Great Adventure
Announced in 2022, The Flash: Vertical Velocity at Six Flags Great Adventure will be a boomerang roller coaster built by ride manufacturer Vekoma. Reaching almost 60 mph, The Flash: Vertical Velocity will take riders forward and backward.

This new coaster iot to be confused with the Intamin-built roller coaster of the same name, which opened in 2001 at Six Flags Great America.
This summer, Six Flags merged with Cedar Fair, a combined portfolio of 42 parks now under one company.
