SteamTown area now open at Six Flags America with new SteamWhirler ride
SteamTown, a steampunk-themed area, opened June 22, 2024 at Six Flags America with a new ride — SteamWhirler — and three reimagined mainstays.

Welcome to SteamTown, New at Six Flags America
SteamTown, now open to the public, is an overhaul of Six Flags America’s former Coyote Creek area. As part of the SteamTown transformation, the amusement park in Bowie, Md. (near Baltimore) introduced one new ride and reintroduced three existing rides.

Six Flags America’s new ride, SteamWhirler (pictured below), is a flat ride built by Zamperla. The ride’s four arms spin (but never go upside-down), seeming to barely miss contact with one another in a mesmerizing dance. This ride system, known as NebulaZ, also exists in various other parks (including Carowinds, where it’s known as Gear Spin).

New versions of existing attractions include the Professor Screamore’s SkyWinder roller coaster (formerly Mind Eraser), QuantumCanyon Rapids (formerly Renegade Rapids), and the ElectroDerby bumper cars (previously Coyote Creek Crazy Cars).

All of the attractions connect to the area’s new story, which spotlights an original character, Professor Screamore.

Guests can also dine at Fillament’s SteamPub, purchase sweets at Clockwork Confection Co., and shop for souvenirs at Looking Glass Creations. Professor Screamore himself appears in “SteamHeist,” a new stunt show that debuted earlier this month at the Exposition Center in the park’s Chesapeake area.
Six Flags America is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Next month, Six Flags will officially merge with Cedar Fair. The newly combined company will operate 42 parks total.
