This summer, Disney California Adventure will celebrate the characters and music of Disney’s “The Lion King” with a brand-new adaptation of the classic story in the form of a theatrical outdoor musical production – titled “Tale of the Lion King”.
This new show is comprised of a cast of 18 performers – actors, singers, dancers, and drummers – who form an ensemble called the Storytellers of the Pride Lands. This traveling theater troupe tells stories in their own contemporary style through language, song, and dance.
Creative Director Susana Tubert and the Disney Parks Live Entertainment team are currently in the middle of workshops and rehearsals for the show, which will open at the park later this summer.
Check out a behind-the-scenes look at the new show in the video below:
In this story-theatre production, the prop, scenic and costume designs are all celebrating the spirit of Africa. All-new arrangements of the classic songs have been written for the show, focusing on the vocal performances of the actors and music from the drummers for a unique, percussive sound.
“Tale of the Lion King” will take the Palisades Stage at Disney California Adventure for a limited time this summer starting June 7.
