Taylor Swift’s song announcement: Here’s how she will be involved in “Toy Story 5”
Taylor Swift has officially confirmed her involvement with “Toy Story 5,” and her announcement is giving fans even more reason to believe the upcoming Pixar sequel could be heavily focused on Jessie.
In a social media post, Swift revealed that her new original song, “I Knew It, I Knew You,” will be released on June 5.

“It’s a Toy Story, you knew it!” Swift wrote. “My new original song ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’ will be yours on June 5. I have always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a five-year-old kid watching the first Toy Story.”
Swift added that she was able to see an early version of the film and immediately felt inspired.
“I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?”
The announcement artwork accompanying the post features a tire swing hanging from a tree, an image that many fans immediately connected to Jessie’s emotional “When She Loved Me” sequence from “Toy Story 2.”

Disney just confirmed this is about Jessie
According to Disney, the song is:
“Inspired by the rootin’ tootin’ cowgirl Jessie’s ongoing journey in ‘Toy Story 5’ that began back in ‘Toy Story 2.'”
Disney has already given the cowgirl a prominent role in the park’s new Jessie’s Roundup experience at Magic Kingdom, while recent merchandise has sparked additional discussion.
While Swift’s announcement confirms she is contributing music to the movie—not voicing a new character—the tire swing imagery, the continued spotlight on Jessie, and the mysterious horses appearing in merchandise all continue to fuel speculation that Jessie is at the heart of Pixar’s next adventure.
“It’s incredible just how meaningful it’s been having Taylor write and perform this song. Her connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable. The song is so deeply connected to ‘Toy Story.’ So much so that on first listen, it instantly felt like it had always belonged there, like a long-lost family member. It was kismet,” said Andrew Stanton, director and screenwriter of “Toy Story 5.”
Stanton’s comments are particularly notable because they focus specifically on Jessie, all but confirming that the beloved cowgirl may be at the center of the film’s story.
We’ve previously explored theories surrounding a rumored horse character named Daffodil and the appearance of two unidentified horses in “Toy Story 5” merchandise.
Disney and Pixar have not yet revealed full story details for “Toy Story 5,” but fans now have one more clue to analyze before the film arrives in theaters. “I Knew It, I Knew You” becomes available on June 5, 2026.
More than two decades after “When She Loved Me” brought audiences to tears, Jessie may once again be preparing to tell one of Pixar’s most emotional stories.
