Review of ‘The Conjuring: Beyond Fear’

“Quick! We need your help!” You know the common trope in theme park attractions where a character breaks the fourth wall to address guests and says they need our help to save the world? Such templates typically involve peril ensuing and ultimate the main character thanking us at the end for being the hero of the day, despite us not actually doing anything.

That’s not the case with “The Conjuring: Beyond Fear.” Yes, the Warrens from “The Conjuring” films do need our help, but in this attraction, guests actually have a direct hand in saving the day (in this case, exorcising demons).

The 20-minute walkthrough is the most fun I’ve had in a theme park in a long time, and the best experience Scarowinds has ever crafted. Through what seems like a dozen or more rooms and spaces, characters from “The Conjuring” guide groups of 8-10 guests on a fast-paced mission. You’ll crawl on the floor. You’ll throw holy water on a demonic nun. Someone in the group carries Annabelle the doll nearly the whole time.

The story, special effects, and pace never stop. Guests are truly in the middle of an “all hell has broken loose” theme park trope (quite literally in this story), and I loved it.

“The Conjuring: Beyond Fear” takes a big swing in existing as a new type of attraction altogether. It’s not a haunted house, though there are scareactors and a few jump scares. Though it’s described as an escape-room-style experience (perhaps for sheer familiarity’s sake), it’s not an escape room; guests do participate in the action, but there are no puzzles or extended periods of the group trying to solve something before moving on. This is a unique style of theme park attraction altogether, clearly with a lot of effort and investment behind it.

We attended a preview of “The Conjuring: Beyond Fear” at Carowinds; the park’s entertainment director told us the attraction is the same at all four park locations (including Cedar Point, Kings Island, and Canada’s Wonderland).

Is ‘The Conjuring: Beyond Fear’ worth it?

You’ll probably enjoy “The Conjuring: Beyond Fear” and consider the extra price worth it if you:

  • enjoy haunt attractions and would like to see a new style
  • like escape rooms
  • don’t mind being in small rooms close to other guests

You may want to skip “The Conjuring: Beyond Fear” if you:

  • are visiting the park on a budget
  • have limitations related to physical mobility
  • are averse to overtly haunted spiritual themes (i.e. upside-down crosses spinning, reciting the Lord’s Prayer to cast away a demon, etc.)
  • are uncomfortable in close quarters with other guests

Pricing for ‘The Conjuring: Beyond Fear’ at Six Flags parks

“The Conjuring: Beyond Fear” costs an extra charge, even for season passholders. There are a few ways to purchase entry into the attraction:

  • single entry into “The Conjuring: Beyond Fear” | $15-$25, depending on the night
  • Haunted Attractions Express Pass, which includes expedited entry into all haunted houses + “The Conjuring: Beyond Fear” for one night | $29-$69, depending on the night
  • All-Season Haunted Attractions Express Pass, which includes expedited entry into all haunted houses + “The Conjuring: Beyond Fear” for all haunt nights | $55-$69, depending on the park

Links to purchase: Carowinds, Cedar Point, Kings Island, and Canada’s Wonderland. Again, this experience is separate from your admission price into the park.

(The various parks have operated their Halloween events using various business models, sometimes treating them as separately ticketed events and other times including them with regular daytime admission. For 2025, entry into the park during these nighttime Halloween events is included with daytime admission, but haunted houses and “The Conjuring” experience cost extra.)

The story behind ‘The Conjuring: Beyond Fear’

The lore for “The Conjuring: Beyond Fear” involves Annabelle getting loose and guests having to carry her through various rooms. Here’s the backstory, described by Six Flags:

Step into the role of paranormal investigator, recruited by Ed and Lorraine Warren to lock away cursed artifacts before supernatural chaos is unleashed. Join a small group of recruits and take on the daunting mission of restoring order after dark forces escape from the cursed objects within the Warren Artifact Room. Encounter legendary entities such as The Nun, The Crooked Man, and The Ferryman as you race to lock Annabelle back in her secure box — or risk catastrophic consequences for the living realm.
