Tips to boost your score on WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure

WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure at Avengers Campus is not only the first Disney ride-through attraction themed to the webbed Avenger, but it also introduces innovative new technology developed by the young inventors at the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (WEB) — with a bit of help from Disney Imagineers, of course.

According to Brent Strong, executive creative director for Walt Disney Imagineering, it was essential to Imagineers that the attraction’s interface “disappeared” to ensure guests feel like they actually have superpowers.

“Every time you ride WEB Slingers, we have an entire invisible interface that’s on that vehicle with you developed by all the inventors at WEB,” Strong explains. “It’s an array of cameras that, in real-time, are able to determine where your head is, where your shoulders are, where your elbows are, where your wrists are, and between that and the 3D glasses, we’re able to create webs coming right out of your wrists every time you gesture. It’s a ton of technology, it’s a lot of computers, but it should all just go away, so you can live out your Spider-Man moment.”

There’s no doubt the ability to shoot webs out of your wrists is extremely cool, but there’s also a scoring component, providing the opportunity to make it onto leader boards that display daily, weekly, and monthly rankings on screens at the ride’s exit.

How to Score Points on WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure

Captured Spider-Bot

The easiest (and most obvious) way to score points is to target the Spider-Bots. However, while most bots are blue and red, it won’t take long to notice there are other colors, which also tells you they’re not all worth the same number of points. Therefore, a key to racking up a higher score is to aim for the higher-value solid-colored targets, with red/blue being the lowest (300 points each), followed by green (900 points), red (1,500 points), blue (3,000 points), and gold (6,000 points). The ride will also keep track of how many bots of each color you hit.

In addition, riders should keep an eye out for doors and levers that may trigger effects and earn additional points. And, since both Marvel and Disney are famous for hiding Easter eggs, eagle-eyed riders who spot these hidden gems will be rewarded with a higher score.

“People are just slinging as fast as they can at Spider-Bots, but don’t realize that the webs can actually interact with the environments as well,” Strong reveals. “So, you can grab onto shipping containers, open doors, grow things and shrink things in the Pym labs, open up some of those vitrines in the Collector’s fortress – and we’ve hidden a million easter eggs and fun surprises in there for people to discover.”

WEB Tech can boost web-slinging abilities

WEB Tech

It seems the inventors at WEB can get pretty competitive, so they’ve developed a way to boost web-slinging abilities with WEB Power Bands, a brand new merchandise “overlay” that lets guests unlock enhanced capabilities on the attraction.

The basic WEB Power Band is available at WEB Suppliers inside Avengers Campus and the Backlot Premiere Shop at Stage 17 in California Adventure’s Hollywood Land ($35). There are also upgrades themed to specific superheroes ($30), including an Iron Man Power Band that allows you to shoot repulsor blasts and a Spider-Man Power Band that will enable you to shoot electro-charged webs. The result? You hit more Spider-Bots and earn more points.

“Everyone has their own favorite hero, so we wanted to make sure that everyone had a chance to play as their favorite hero,” Strong says. “Each [band] unlocks different abilities, different strengths, different weaknesses. It really changes the way you play on the attraction and allows you to role-play as your favorite hero on the ride.”

Teamwork is a plus on WEB Slingers

The rooms are very large, and Spider-Bots are literally everywhere, so families or groups riding together can benefit from a “divide and conquer strategy” with each web-slinger focusing on a specific area rather than everyone randomly firing webs in all directions.

Similarly, although the ride does record each player’s score, there are also rankings for the highest overall vehicle score, so if making the leader board is your primary goal, resisting an “every man for himself” instinct and working with fellow riders is more likely to achieve a top score — and after all, the Avengers are also more successful when they work as a team.
