AMC’s viral Shrek outhouse popcorn bucket is exactly as ridiculous as it sounds
As Shrek returns to movie theaters this weekend for its 25th anniversary rerelease, AMC has a collectible popcorn bucket inspired by one of the movie’s most memorable locations: Shrek’s outhouse. It’s gone viral and is expected to sell out.

The new “Outhouse Popcorn Collectible” is available at participating AMC Theatres locations beginning May 1 while supplies last. The container recreates the wooden outhouse seen during the opening moments of the original film, complete with a removable Shrek figure attached to the side.
A collectible straight out of the swamp
The oversized bucket opens from both the roof and front door, turning the joke prop into a functional concession container. Photos shared online quickly spread across social media thanks to the bucket’s unusual design and surprisingly detailed sculpting.
And the comments on AMC Theatre’s social media post are entertaining to read.
The collectible arrives as movie theater merchandise continues growing far beyond standard popcorn tubs and drink cups. Over the past few years, theaters have increasingly released elaborate limited-edition containers tied to major film releases.
Some have become viral sensations, including the sandworm-inspired bucket released for Dune: Part Two earlier this year.
Movie theater merchandise keeps getting bigger
The rise of collectible concession items has started to mirror trends longtime theme park fans already know well.
Specialty popcorn buckets have become a major part of the guest experience at Disney and Universal parks, with limited releases often generating long lines and resale markets online. Movie theaters are now tapping into similar fandom behavior by turning concession stands into merchandise destinations.

In the case of Shrek, the franchise’s oddball humor makes the outhouse design spot on. For now, the Shrek outhouse bucket is only available at local theaters, expected to be priced at $44.99, and is not currently part of the online merchandise collection.

Shrek returns to theaters this weekend
The rerelease celebrates 25 years of Shrek, which originally debuted in 2001 and helped launch DreamWorks Animation into a major competitor in theatrical animation.
And of course, Shrek’s popularity continues in the world of theme parks. At Universal Studios Florida, guests can currently meet Shrek inside DreamWorks Land, while Universal Kids Resort is expected to include the franchise’s first dedicated Shrek ride when the park opens.

For fans heading to theaters this weekend, this popcorn bucket is going to be just as talked-about as the movie itself.
