Carowinds is adding another entry to the theme park world’s ever-growing list of record-breakers. The park has announced Rip Roarin’ Falls, a new super flume attraction set to open in 2027 that promises three world records, a 100-foot plunge and one very big splash.

The ride will feature a 100-foot final plunge, reaching speeds of 50 mph while combining traditional log flume elements with coaster-like thrills. According to the park, Rip Roarin’ Falls will break three world records, including the tallest log flume drop, tallest reverse drop, and tallest reverse camelback.

Riders will travel both forward and backward through more than 2,240 feet of track during the 6.5-minute experience, themed to an abandoned lumber mill rumored to be haunted.

“This level of investment and innovation is a true testament of our team’s commitment to bringing legendary attractions and world-class experiences to the Carolinas,” said Bridgette Bywater, Carowinds president.

“As a new signature ride, it combines record-setting thrills and cutting-edge ride innovation—all with a 35-inch height requirement that makes it accessible for families. It’s the perfect addition, sure to create lasting memories for generations of guests.”

The emphasis on world records comes shortly after Six Flags Over Texas faced scrutiny over its own record-breaking claims tied to the upcoming launch of the coaster ‘Werewolf Gorge.’ Fans questioned whether the park’s advertised achievements were unique enough to merit the title. We’re seeing regional destinations across the industry increasingly seek out superlatives to help new attractions stand out in a crowded marketplace.

Construction is already underway on the former site of Rip Roarin’ Rapids, with Rip Roarin’ Falls aiming to open at Carowinds in 2027.
