Disney to host special ‘Once Upon a Wish Party’ for Make-A-Wish families

To celebrate World Princess Week on Aug. 20-26, 2023, the Walt Disney Company will host a ball called “Once Upon a Wish Party,” specifically for wish kids from across the country.

Make-A-Wish and the Walt Disney Company have been granting Wishes to children in need since 1980.

“Disney is the largest wish granter in the world, and over our more than 40-year relationship, we’ve granted some pretty incredible wishes together,” said Leslie Motter, Make-A-Wish America President and CEO. “Whatever Disney does, they go all out.”

First-of-Its-Kind Event at Walt Disney World

On May 24, 2023, Walt Disney World and Make-A-Wish announced a unique, all-day royal experience just for wish families. The event was revealed during a special gathering for a Florida first grader from the Orange County Public School district.

Cast Members joined Minnie Mouse and representatives from Make-A-Wish to surprise seven-year-old Scarlett from Ventura Elementary School in Kissimmee, Fla. The lifelong fan of Disney princesses was thrilled to hear the news that her “Disney Princess experience” wish was going to come true while she was surrounded by almost 100 classmates, teachers, and family members.

After undergoing many surgeries and a heart transplant at just 18 months old, school became a place of comfort for Scarlett. Disney and Make-A-Wish came together to surprise Scarlett at her happy place the week before school let out for the summer.

Once Upon A Wish Party Details

The Once Upon A Wish Party will take place at Walt Disney World during World Princess Week occuring August 20-26, 2023. Scarlett and her family as well as other wish families across the U.S. will be invited to attend.

In a statement, Disney shared that these families will enjoy “surprises from dusk to dawn, including tea and treats, immersive Disney character meet and greets, and a ball they’re sure to remember forever.”

Make-A-Wish America creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Since 1980, Make-A-Wish had granted more than 550,000 wishes worldwide and more than 360,000 wishes in the US. Disney just celebrated its 150,000th wish granted on April 29, 2023.
