Crystal Lagoons Island Resort has announced an agreement with Mattel, Inc. for a first-of-its-kind Mattel Adventure Park in Glendale, Ariz. slated to open in 2022.
“We are thrilled to create the country’s first Mattel Adventure Park in Glendale,” said Mark Cornell, president of attractions & entertainment for Crystal Lagoons Island Resort. “A passion for innovation and excellence has driven the design of our venue. Mattel shares our vision and sets the platinum standard for the concept of play.”
In addition to an 11-acre Crystal Lagoons water park, two hotels, restaurants, and specialty retail stores, Glendale’s new entertainment destination will feature unique Mattel experiences, including immersive branded dining, experiential retail, go-karting, a Hot Wheels roller coaster, and a Thomas & Friends indoor theme park with the first life-sized Thomas the Tank Engine electric-battery powered passenger train.
Guests will also be able to experience a 4-D theater and a “fly theater” (similar to “Soarin’ Around the World” attraction at Disney California Adventure); a tethered helium balloon that will take visitors nearly 400 feet into the air; and Aerophile’s Aerobar, a unique venue that will serve food and drinks at 130 feet above the ground.
“We are delighted for Glendale to be the flagship location for this resort that will bring technology and globally established partners to create a one-of-a-kind environment,” said Glendale’s City Manager, Kevin Phelps. “The Crystal Lagoons and the Mattel-themed Adventure Park will complement our thriving sports and entertainment district and support our goal of being a premier destination for visitors from across the globe.”
Crystal Lagoons Island Resort is expected to open in late 2022, just in time for football fans traveling to Glendale for Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 12, 2023, at State Farm Stadium.
