First look at food coming to the restaurants aboard the Disney Wish
Disney Cruise Line continues to reveal new details about the design, dining and entertainment coming to the fleet’s new ship, the Disney Wish, setting sail summer 2022. The ship will feature a boatload of new dining concepts, including a Marvel-themed dining adventure, a Frozen-themed dinner and a show, and an elegant restaurant honoring The Walt Disney Company’s epic filmmaking history, and we’ve got a first look at some of the dishes coming to each of these restaurants.
We sampled three courses of menu items during a media preview, with each course coming from a different restaurant’s menu. Here’s a look at the selections. Keep in mind that menus are still in development and subject to change.
1923
1923 celebrates the evolution of Disney animation and honors the legacy of The Walt Disney Company, founded in 1923, and its famed founders, Walt and Roy Disney. Two elegant dining rooms, named after each of the brothers, will be decorated with nearly 800 pieces of artwork, 50 character maquettes, 24 multiplane cel set-ups showcasing Disney films that used the animation technique, props, drawings, and more.
A California-inspired menu fuses the state’s international influences, including Asian, South American and European cuisines, with local ingredients and a robust selection of Napa Valley wines. Here are the appetizers we sampled.
Porcini Spiced Ahi Tuna
Ahi tuna is lightly seared and served with pickled lotus root, oyster mushroom, black sesame brittle, wasabi and yuzu mayonnaise.
Fennel, Bartlett Pear and Tatsoi Salad
Crisp, thinly sliced fennel is served with Manchego cheese, walnuts and sherry dressing.
Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure
Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure is one of three main dining experiences that guests will rotate among when sailing on the Disney Wish. The story picks up just after the events of “Frozen 2,” and guests will attend a royal engagement party, hosted by Oaken, for Queen Anna and Kristoff.
Tables in the theater-in-the-round-style venue surround a center stage, where guests will enjoy live musical performances by Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf, accompanied by “local” musicians performing Nordic versions of “Frozen” favorites.
The menu will feature seafood and rustic game dishes (all restaurants on the Wish will offer plant-based options as well), and will celebrate Nordic ingredients and flavors as well as feature modern, family-friendly options. We tried two main courses from the menu.
Seared Chilean Seabass
Tender Chilean Seabass is served with white asparagus, petite leeks, savoy spinach, Romanesco, peas, kohlrabi, rainbow carrots, a delicate seared scallop, pea tendrils and Mjod vinaigrette.
Juniper-Spiced Roasted Free-Range Chicken
Juniper-spiced roasted free-range chicken is served with scallion, duck-fat fried potatoes (a major crowd pleaser) and estragon wild mushrooms.
Avengers: Quantum Encounter
Set within the Worlds of Marvel restaurant on the Disney Wish, Avengers: Quantum Encounter is an interactive dining adventure hosted by Ant-Man and The Wasp, who give a special presentation showcasing the latest super-hero tech developments, including Pym Tech’s newest advance, Quantum Core technology. Every table in the restaurant has its own Quantum Core, “a brand-new device that can cause objects to shrink and grow remotely,” and guests join Ant-Man and The Wasp in trialing the technology with a few test runs (which, of course, go awry). When Ultron shows up and tries to get his robotic hands on the tech, Scott and Hope call on a couple of friends — Captain Marvel and Captain America — to help out.
World of Marvel menus are still in development but will take inspiration from Marvel Cinematic Universe locales including Wakanda, Sokovia, New York City, China and California, with dishes and their presentations also taking nods for the “Stark-itecture” design employed throughout the restaurant. We sampled two delicious desserts — here’s a look.
Sticky Fig Pudding
Sticky fig pudding takes inspiration from the United Kingdom, and while the culinary team referenced Peggy Carter, they were quick to note that dishes at Worlds of Marvel are influenced more by locales than characters. The pudding is served with salted caramel coconut, balsamic glaze and vanilla ice cream.
Flourless Chocolate Beetroot Cake
Chocolate cake, pepper beetroot and milk chocolate soil come together in a not-too-sweet dessert all but guaranteed to be a fan favorite.
