Howl-O-Scream Orlando turns ’90s nostalgia into a Y2K scare zone
Guests who lived through dial-up modems, video rental late fees, and the Y2K panic have a scare zone waiting for them this fall. SeaWorld Orlando has announced ‘Nekrosis,’ an all-new Howl-O-Scream scare zone set in a seaside town frozen at midnight on Jan. 1, 2000. The event runs select nights from Sept. 11 – Oct. 31, 2026.

From a video store frozen in time to monsters hiding among relics of the decade, the scare zone transforms Y2K nostalgia into a decaying millennial nightmare. The increasingly enticing lineup is making Howl-O-Scream a standout among Halloween in Orlando events.

SeaWorld’s description reads:
“Welcome to Howl-O-Scream 2026, where the party ended forever when the clock struck midnight on January 1, 2000.
This once-thriving seaside town has been abandoned to decay, frozen in the final moments of the millennium. The streets are littered with remnants of a decade long gone—but the people who celebrated Y2K never truly left.
From the eerie aisles of Howl-O-Flix—a video store frozen in time—to monsters lurking behind relics of the past, every corner is packed with unsettling reminders that the greatest decade never truly ended.
What happened when the countdown reached zero? And more importantly… …what’s still waiting here?”
Nekrosis is one of several original concepts coming to Howl-O-Scream Orlando this year, alongside a scare zone that transforms the dark romance genre into a seductive gothic nightmare.

Rewind: A bar to match
The Rewind is one of five all-new interactive bars for 2026, and it runs on the same nostalgia. The park’s description reads:
“Grab a themed cocktail and relive the ’90s through stacks of VHS tapes, ringing landlines, glowing arcade lights and the unmistakable screech of dial-up. Between the throwback soundtrack and the undead atmosphere, this is one rewind you’ll never forget. Just don’t expect to press ‘Stop.'”
Howl-O-Scream has run a themed bar program for several years, and this year is no exception. Pairing The Rewind with Nekrosis gives guests somewhere to sit within the story rather than walk past it, and fans caught the connection quickly.
What fans are saying
The park’s announcement reel is filled with comments from guests old enough to have lived the decade.
“Thank you for appealing to the Walkman generation, not the fortnite one,” one commenter wrote, drawing the most likes on the reel.

One guest reported a genuine coincidence, writing that they spent the actual Y2K countdown at Bayside Stadium, the outdoor venue inside SeaWorld Orlando.
Others focused on the performers. “Your scare zones always get me,” one wrote, crediting the event’s scare actors. Another guest called Howl-O-Scream the best Halloween event in Florida. Several said they were ready for the fog.

What else is coming to Howl-O-Scream 2026
Nekrosis is one of seven scare zones for 2026. Five are all-new, including Just One More Chapter, a dark romance zone set in an enchanted garden. Two fan favorites return: Woodrot Hollow, set in a festering swamp, and Trailer Park Tragedy. Three of the new zones have not been named.
The event also includes five haunted houses, four of them with all-new storylines. The first house announced was ‘Everything Must Stay,’ built around a suburban open house that no buyer survives.
And the biggest announncement of the season so far is the coming of a house based on the 1997 movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” It’s the perfect pairing for a 1999-into-2000-themed scare zone!

Rounding out the lineup are two roaming hordes, live shows like Monster Stomp at the Nautilus Theater, and four attractions running after dark: Mako, Ice Breaker, Pipeline, and Expedition Odyssey: Fire & Ice. The Howl-O-Sprint 5K returns Friday, Sept. 18, and a new Terror Tour pairs guests with a VIP guide for the night.
Tickets and event details
Howl-O-Scream is a separately ticketed event and is not included with daytime admission. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., and the event begins at 7 p.m.
A limited-time Killer Summer Sale has the Unlimited Scream Pass at $112.99, down from $205.99, with a blockout-date version at $102.99. Single-night tickets start at $38.99 each with a minimum purchase of four. A two-park pass covering SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is $164.99.
The event is built for mature audiences and includes blood, gore, and violence. Costumes are not permitted. SeaWorld also runs the family-friendly Halloween Spooktacular on select dates, Aug. 29 – Nov. 1. Orlando’s other major hard-ticket Halloween event, Halloween Horror Nights, returns to Universal Orlando this fall.
