Journey to Atlantis to be ‘reinvented’ in 2025 at SeaWorld San Diego, closing ‘top of the year’
Journey to Atlantis at SeaWorld San Diego will undergo a reimagining in 2025 with new ride elements for the long-running roller coaster.

Changes for Journey to Atlantis at SeaWorld San Diego
SeaWorld San Diego’s Journey to Atlantis roller coaster will be transformed in 2025, the California park announced on Nov. 1, 2024. The ride originally opened in 2004 as the park’s first coaster.
“Next year, the ride will be reinvented,” SeaWorld San Diego said in a statement, “paying tribute to the original beloved version while adding new elements to create a more exciting and immersive experience than ever before.”
Changes will include a “refreshed” storyline, as well as new water elements, visual effects, and show elements.
SeaWorld did not announce an exact timeline for the Journey to Atlantis refurbishment, but did confirm the following to Attractions Magazine:
The ride remains open at this time but is expected to close closer to the top of the year for renovations.
Rides called Journey to Atlantis also operate at SeaWorld Orlando in Florida and SeaWorld San Antonio in Texas, though all three versions of the attractions are quite different from one another. SeaWorld has not announced any updates for the Orlando or San Antonio versions of the ride.

Jewels of the Sea: A Jellyfish Experience delayed to 2025
In addition to the Journey to Atlantis news, SeaWorld San Diego also announced Jewels of the Sea: A Jellyfish Experience will open in spring 2025. The new, interactive aquarium exhibit was originally announced to open in 2024. The park shared these new renderings of the attraction:
