Cute meets kaiju at McDonald’s this August.
McDonald’s is teasing a new Hello Kitty and Godzilla collaboration arriving Aug. 18, bringing together Sanrio’s famous character and Toho’s King of the Monsters for an unexpected limited-time promotion.
The first teaser was shared Monday by McDonald’s and its official Happy Meal social account with a simple message: “cute meets kaiju 08.18.”
In the video, a Happy Meal box travels across the ocean aboard a tiny boat before something enormous appears behind it. The creature is revealed to be Hello Kitty wearing a Godzilla-inspired headpiece, complete with Godzilla’s textured skin and signature features.
Fine print in the teaser states that the promotion will be available “at participating McDonald’s for a limited time” and “while supplies last.” The video also carries copyright notices for Sanrio and Toho.
What is McDonald’s launching Aug. 18?
A newly released promotional image offers another clue about the collaboration’s scope. Hello Kitty appears in her Godzilla look alongside Mechagodzilla and another kaiju character. McDonald’s has not yet revealed the full toy lineup.

For now, McDonald’s is keeping most of the details under wraps. The involvement of the official Happy Meal account and prominent Happy Meal box certainly point toward a Happy Meal promotion, but the teaser does not show or identify the toys or other items that could be included.
This isn’t Hello Kitty’s first unexpected McDonald’s crossover. In 2024, McDonald’s brought together Hello Kitty and Friends and “Yu-Gi-Oh!” for a Happy Meal collection featuring 10 plush toys that combined characters from the two franchises. Hello Kitty appeared as Dark Magician, while other pairings included Cinnamoroll with Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Kuromi with Slifer the Sky Dragon.
Whatever Godzilla has awakened, we won’t have to wait long to find out. Hello Kitty x Godzilla arrives at participating McDonald’s on Aug. 18, while supplies last.
