Movie Review: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ is a crazier roller coaster ride than Cosmic Rewind

“Emotional roller coaster” is an understatement for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, the final installment in the trilogy. We were crying practically the whole time: whether it was tears of laughter, sadness, or happiness. The film’s pacing and filmography embodied chaos in a way only Director James Gunn can.

In Vol. 3, the Guardians are up against “the high evolutionary” a truly despicable figure who has bio-engineered many different species in a quest to create a perfect society. The evolutionary is of course, the one who originally altered Rocket Raccoon, so as one can imagine, the stakes are high and the vendetta is personal. Actor Chukwudi Iwuji brings such malice into the character; I can’t remember a villain I’ve loved to hate this much since Thanos.

A few of the action sequences really stuck out to me as notable. The use of music, just like the first two films in the franchise, and its juxtaposition with beautiful slow motion and expert choreography and computer graphics, was just beautiful. The soundtrack as a whole wasn’t as memorable as the first two films, but when it needed to, it really worked its magic.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is the perfect end to the current Guardians team, and shouldn’t be missed for any Marvel fan. It will be out in theaters everywhere on May 5, 2023, and while we saw it in a RPX theater, I recommend seeing it in 3D, 4D, or IMAX, if you have the chance. It’s got real potential to be a super fun ride.

While the movie is rated PG-13, it breaks the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s no F-bomb streak, and has more of the kind of vulgar and crude humor that the Guardians are famous for. As usual, stay for a mid- and an end-credit scene. Don’t expect much from the end one.
