New Animal Kingdom food options announced by Walt Disney World

Starting Oct. 11, 2023, new Animal Kingdom food options will be available for Walt Disney World guests to enjoy.

New Animal Kingdom food

Walt Disney World recently announced several new items will appear on Disney’s Animal Kingdom menus, including new breakfast options, lunch and dinner entrées, and desserts. Some of these new menu items are modified versions of previous Animal Kingdom offerings.

We will start with breakfast, then move to lunch/dinner, and of course, finish with dessert. Also, since Walt Disney World announced new alcoholic beverages, we’ll be sure to include that as well (we know that’s technically not food, but you’re on vacation, right?)

New Animal Kingdom food options for breakfast

A new Stuffed Pancake Sandwich arrives at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on Oct. 11, 2023. This salty-sweet combination is different than the breakfast options usually seen at Walt Disney World. In fairness, while researching dining at Animal Kingdom, we noticed some unique items have appeared (and then disappeared) over the last few months, so we’ll see if this new Stuffed Pancake Sandwich is the final decision for a new signature breakfast item at the park.

The breakfast sandwich is filled with sausage, guava paste, egg, and cheese, but if guava is not your thing, you can get this sandwich without it. The new item will be available for breakfast at Drinkwallah, Pongu Pongu, Trek Snacks, and select outdoor vending carts.

Disney also announced a new cinnamon roll will start being sold at Pongu Pongu, the snack stand for the Pandora – The World of Avatar area.

Finally, in terms of new breakfast items, Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery will add two new food selections:

  • Egg and Bacon Croissant Sandwich with Tomato-Pepper Relish – A croissant with a cheese omelet, crispy bacon, and tomato-pepper relish served with potato barrels
  • Breakfast Totchos with Eggs, Bacon, and Cheese – Potato barrels, scrambled eggs, nacho cheese sauce, cheese curds, and crumbled bacon

The Kusafiri breakfast options may sound like breakfast options at other Walt Disney World theme parks, but these offer a twist of versions found elsewhere.

New Animal Kingdom food options for lunch or dinner

Harambe Market in the African area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom has revamped its menu with some new bowl entrees. Previously, Harambe Market served bowls with ribs and chicken, but starting Oct. 11, 2023, four new bowls change that up a bit.

Walt Disney World has been attempting to make “bowls” stick in several quick service locations, including at Satu’li Canteen where the bowls exceed the level of most theme park quick service options. Hopefully, these new bowls at Harambe Market might earn an equal reputation.

The new choices are Chicken and Shrimp Rice Bowl, Chicken Rice Bowl, and Shrimp Rice Bowl. Each features jollof rice with kachumbari tomato salad and tzatziki sauce. A kids’ version consists of a Shrimp and Rice Bowl with Peri Peri-marinated shrimp, white rice, and a Mandarin orange.

Harambe Market will also offer a few additional options:

  • Beef and Lamb Kofta Pita – House-made beef and lamb kofta with tzatziki sauce, chermoula, and house-made chips
  • Impossible Kofta Pita (plant-based) – Impossible kofta accompanied by a plant-based aïoli, chermoula, and house-made chips
  • Harambe Salad with Chicken – Chermoula-marinated chicken with quinoa, grilled corn, black-eyed peas, and crispy chickpeas topped with chermoula-herbed vinaigrette (this salad is also available topped with shrimp).

Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery

Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery will start serving two new entrées after breakfast hours:

  • Plant-based Impossible Gatsby – A pita pocket filled with plant-based picadillo, tomato-pepper relish, and crispy potato sticks topped with a plant-based aïoli. Served with house-made chips
  • Harissa Chicken Wrap – Harissa chicken salad with vegetables and an avocado spread rolled in a spinach tortilla. Served with homemade chips

Flame Tree Barbecue and Pizzafari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Flame Tree Barbecue appears to be bringing back variations of covered fries-style entrees, and we look forward to trying these during our next visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We thought previous iterations of topped fries were good quick service options, and although these may not fit your dietary needs, one is plant-based.

. The new Flame Tree Barbecue options are:

  • Impossible Burnt Ends – A plant-based dish featuring alternative meat and fries with slaw on the side
  • French Fries with Pulled Pork and Cheese – a meat eater’s version with pulled pork over fries

Two new menu options at Pizzafari are:

  • Plant-based Italian Sausage (served with a side salad with Italian dressing)
  • Antipasto Side Salad

Always Save Room for Dessert

At theme parks, you can start with dessert if you like, but we decided to save it for last.

On Oct. 11, 2023, a new dessert will be offered at Harambe Market: an attractive-looking Mango Passion Fruit Cheesecake.

Over at Tamu Tamu Refreshments (located in the heart of Harambe Village) some sweet new treats will be added to the menu there, including a new Dole Whip Orange Soda Float with strawberry syrup on top. Of course, if that doesn’t appeal to you, the original Dole Whip will still be on the menu at Tamu Tamu Refreshments.

For those aged 21 or older, Tamu Tamu Refreshments has you covered with a Dole Whip Float with Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, a Dole Whip Hard Cider Float, and ACE Pineapple Craft Cider.

We can’t think of a better way to spend time in Animal Kingdom than trying all these new food options. Don’t forget to let us know what you think in the comments below.
