Le Spatula, a SpongeBob restaurant

Everest Place announced Le Spatula, a “SpongeBob SquarePants” restaurant, on July 1, 2025. The eatery will be part of the Orlando Nickelodeon property. According to Everest Place, “SpongeBob finally got employee of the month [at the Krusty Krab] and opened his own place.”

Apartments

The property won’t only be home to Orlando tourists; it will literally be a home for permanent residents, as the resort will offer studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom condos available for purchase.

The new Nickelodeon hotel will be operated by Lionstar Hospitality (the U.S. licensee of Karisma Hotels & Resorts) in partnership with Paramount Location-Based Entertainment & Experiences.

Nickelodeon’s history in Orlando

Orlando was previously the location of Nickelodeon Suites Resort (aka Nick Hotel), a Holiday Inn property with Nickelodeon-themed rooms, campus décor, shows, 4D rides, and character greetings. The Nick branding was removed in 2016, and today the hotel is known as Holiday Inn Resort Orlando Suites – Waterpark.

To a generation of kids, Nickelodeon and Orlando were synonymous with one another, even before the former Nickelodeon Suites opened.

In the early years of Universal Studios Florida, the park was home to Nickelodeon Studios, a working production facility that filmed shows such as “Kenan & Kel” and “Double Dare.” All filming had shuttered by 2005; today, the building is where guests watch performances of “The Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular” during the holiday season (with the facility annexed as part of Universal Islands of Adventure instead of Universal Studios Florida).

Nearby, Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast, a simulator attraction, operated from 2003-2011 inside the building now home to Despicable Me Minion Mayhem.

From 2012-2022, characters from “SpongeBob SquarePants” and “Dora the Explorer” appeared in “Universal’s Superstar Parade.” To this day, the retail location SpongeBob StorePants remains at the park, featuring merchandise and character greetings.

A Nickelodeon time capsule buried at Universal in the ’90s was later relocated to the former Nick Hotel, and now resides at Nickelodeon’s headquarters in California.
