D23 Expo kicks off today, September 9, 2022, with several exciting sneak-peeks at what’s in store for Disney fans within the expo’s Disney Parks and Experiences Wonderful World of Dreams pavilion.
The Disney Parks Blog offered some tantalizing tidbits about what attendees will discover in the pavilion, including a model and new artwork for Disneyland Resort’s upcoming Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, opening in 2024; the new retail shop, Eudora’s Chic Boutique Featuring Tiana’s Gourmet Secrets, coming to Disneyland park’s New Orleans Square on Sept. 20, 2022; and models that show what Disneyland park’s reimagined Mickey’s Toontown will look like when it reopens in 2023.
Convention-goers will also gain insights into the transformation taking place at Epcot; digital voice assistant “Hey Disney!;” and the brand-new DisneyMe digital avatar coming to the Play Disney Parks app.
Here is a breakdown of each new development:
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure model – Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is coming to Disneyland Resort (and Walt Disney World) in late 2024, and will take guest on a water-ride bayou adventure with Tiana, Naveen, and their friends from the Disney movie, “The Princess and the Frog.” D23 Expo gives guests a preview look at the experience through a model of the upcoming attraction.
Mickey’s Toontown – Models of the reimagined land will show attendees the key experiences, such as Goofy’s How-to-Play Yard and the new Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction.
Walt Disney World’s Epcot transformation
Moana’s story is taking shape at the upcoming Journey of Water attraction, and a series of behind-the-scenes photos have been released along with a model of Te Fiti, the goddess with the power to create life.
Dreamers Point will be a focal point with its “Walt the Dreamer” statue, designed to inspire guests to follow their dreams, just as Walt Disney did.
Shanghai Disney Resort will be home to the first-ever land themed to the Walt Disney Animation Studios movie, “Zootopia.” The convention’s Wonderful World of Dreams pavilion features some of Zootopia’s citizens just as they will appear when the land opens.
Posters and attraction ride vehicle maquettes from Tokyo Disney Resort’s newest themed port, Fantasy Springs, are on display, recalling Walt Disney Animation Studios movies, “Peter Pan,” “Tangled,” and “Frozen.”
Posters representing the upcoming Frozen land at Hong Kong Disneyland will also be on show, along with details about the land.
Disney’s voice assistant
Hey Disney! digital technology gives Disney resort guests a new way to interact with experiences and characters from within their resort room. Among the first additions coming to the digital assistant’s lineup are characters such as Olaf, C3PO, Tiana, and Mirabel from the animated movie “Encanto.”
Convention-goers are the first to give the new DisneyMe digital avatar a try via the Play Disney Parks app. During the expo, guests can embark on an exclusive quest, with the ability to discover specially designed Disney Wish and D23 Expo digital clothing and accessories for their avatar.
