SeaWorld San Diego has been cleared by local officials to reopen the zoo sections of the park under state guidance, according to Blooloop.

As zoos are now allowed to operate in the state of California, SeaWorld will open ahead of other theme parks there, but there is a catch: it can only reopen outdoor areas, while indoor aquariums, rides, and attractions must stay closed.

“SeaWorld can open under state guidance for zoos,” said Tegan Glasheen, spokesperson for San Diego County. “Under that guidance, it can open outdoor areas, but needs to keep indoor aquariums and rides closed.”

The park is set to partially reopen on Friday, Aug. 28 with a special ticketed event, SeaWorld Zoo Days: Bayside BBQ & Brews.

Some parks in California have reopened with limited offerings, like Knott’s Berry Farm; others remain closed or have announced plans to remain closed, like Cedar Fair. At this time, Disneyland is still in the group of closed theme parks – but fans were treated to a sneak peek at Avengers Campus with the arrival of the Quinjet last week.
