Silver Dollar City announces new roller coaster “Miner’s Mountain Express” for 2027
Silver Dollar City has announced a new family roller coaster opening in 2027 at the Branson, Missouri, theme park.
The attraction will continue the story of the Marvel Cave Mining Company, the fictional organization Silver Dollar City has used to tease both the new project and the approaching retirement of Thunderation.

Additional details about the coaster’s name, ride experience and broad opening timeframe were revealed Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, during a themed presentation based on a Marvel Cave Mining Company town hall meeting at Silver Dollar City.
A ride and a new chapter
MACK rides is building this family coaster said to have fifteen moments of weightlessness.
Miner’s Mountain Express will be the longest family coaster in the Midwest.

The announcement comes during the final season of Thunderation, Silver Dollar City’s Arrow Dynamics mine train coaster.

Thunderation opened in 1993 and has carried more than 27 million riders across 3,022 feet of track carved into the Ozark terrain. The coaster reaches 48 mph and is known for its tunnels and 910-degree double helix.
Its final operating day is scheduled for Jan. 2, 2027.
The new coaster will serve as Thunderation’s successor in Silver Dollar City’s attraction lineup, although the park has not previously confirmed whether it will directly occupy the retiring coaster’s footprint.
Silver Dollar City’s major 2027 expansion
The coaster will open during a significant expansion year for Silver Dollar City Parks & Resorts.
The 262-room Silver Dollar City Resort is also scheduled to debut in 2027. It will be the company’s first theme park resort and include a full-service restaurant, indoor and outdoor pools and 20,000 square feet of meeting space.
The resort and new theme park attraction are part of Silver Dollar City’s plan to invest $500 million over 10 years in new family experiences and the development of approximately 1,200 acres adjacent to the park. It is the largest investment plan in the company’s history. At the time when the expansion was announced, Park President Brad Thomas described the expansion as “a new era” for the Branson destination.
This new coaster is proof of how Silver Dollar City plans to mine its past while building its next era.
