Six Flags America — located in Bowie, Md., within Prince George’s County, and nearby Washington, D.C., and a town called Largo — will close permanently in November 2025, as announced last May. The Six Flags property or Largo at large might still be home to an amusement park in the future, as discovered by WUSA9. The local news station in the D.C. area spoke about redevelopment in Largo with Wala Blegay, council member of Prince George’s County.

“We are looking at park amusement entertainment,” Blegay said. “Six Flags is going up for official sale in August. We’re going to see who gets the top bid and start working with them.”

When Six Flags announced the park’s closure last May, a press release stated the park would be be “marketed for redevelopment.”

The final operating day for Six Flags America will be Nov. 2, 2025.

Fans and former employees will gather at Six Flags America on Aug. 15-17 for a “Farewell Reunion Weekend,” an unofficial event not organized by Six Flags.

Six Flags merged with Cedar Fair in 2024. Following a “portfolio review” of the combined company’s 56 amusement parks and water parks, in May 2025 the corporation announced Six Flags America and its accompanying Hurricane Harbor Maryland water park will permanently close following the 2025 season.

Six Flags America near Washington, D.C., is not to be confused with Six Flags Great America near Chicago (which remains open with no plans to close) or California’s Great America in Santa Clara, Calif. (which will permanently close sometime between 2028 and 2032).
