The best Sloth World update yet: 13 sloths now in the care of Central Florida Zoo in stable condition

The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens shared a media alert on April 25 confirming that thirteen sloths appear stable after their initial assessment after being transferred into the zoo’s care.

After weeks of difficult headlines surrounding Sloth World Orlando, this is the most encouraging update yet.

According to the zoo, veterinary and animal care teams began evaluating the animals immediately upon arrival. The first public update stated the sloths were stable following those initial assessments.

A new chapter in the Sloth World story

This development follows a fast-moving series of events tied to the planned Orlando attraction.

Attractions Magazine previously reported on the inspection report detailing multiple sloth deaths tied to the operation, followed by the attraction’s website and social media presence being removed and later county enforcement action connected to a warehouse tied to the project.

Then, on April 24, Sloth World announced it would be shutting down operations.

We discussed the story on Orlando radio

On April 24, I joined Real Radio 104.1 FM’s The Jim Colbert Show to discuss the media journey surrounding the Sloth World saga, how the story unfolded, and why it had drawn such strong public interest across Central Florida.

Just 45 minutes after that interview ended, Sloth World publicly announced it was shutting down. This story continued to change in real time.

Support a local nonprofit zoo

The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens is a small nonprofit zoo that is now caring for thirteen additional animals requiring specialized attention.

For those who have spoken up about Sloth World, advocated for animal welfare, or followed this story closely, donating any amount to support the zoo’s work could make a real difference.

A personal note

I have fond memories of visiting the Central Florida Zoo throughout my childhood, and now I enjoy taking my own son there as well.

While these sloths are not available for public viewing, the zoo remains one of Central Florida’s true hidden gems. For locals and visitors looking for a peaceful day away from the hustle of Orlando’s attractions and theme parks, it offers a place that has long shown genuine care for the animals in its care.

This article is based on a media alert issued by the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens on April 25, 2026, along with previously reported public developments surrounding Sloth World Orlando.
