September 20, 2024 marked the anniversary date for Space 220 Restaurant at Epcot. This restaurant remains one of the most searched-for advanced dining reservations to acquire at Walt Disney World. Guests can make advanced dining reservations for the main restaurant or the Space 220 Lounge (one of Disney World’s few lounges to offer reservations).

Space 220 invited us again this year to get a first glance — and taste — of the new menu items and trading cards released for the dining location’s third anniversary. (You can read about our experience previously in our blog from last year.)

Space 220 Restaurant basics

Space 220

Space 220 can be found in the World Discovery area of Epcot. This table-service dining location resides near the Mission: Space attraction. The main restaurant serves a prix fixe menu for lunch and dinner. The dinner option includes dessert.

Guests dining in the lounge portion can choose from the prix fixe menu or individual items. The lounge often has menu items exclusive to its guests.

Diners enter Space 220 Restaurant next to the Mission: Space attraction at Epcot. After checking in with the outdoor host, guests receive a boarding pass and enter the indoor check-in area. When called, guests enter the “Stellarvator” experience to reach the theme park restaurant 220 miles in space using theme park magic. As you might have guessed, that is why the restaurant is named Space 220.

For many, the themed experience brings them back for repeat visits. During our most recent visit, we heard a group discussing how much they love this restaurant. They spoke about how their favorite part of the dining experience revolved around the “trip 220 miles in space” and the “windows to space” in the dining area.

The service of Space 220 meets what guests would expect from a table-service restaurant at Walt Disney World.

However, the atmosphere elevates the quality of this place for many guests. In addition to the “Stellarvator,” the theming in the dining area sets a solid tone. Also, the “windows to space” enable guests to view some interesting activities happening out there. Those who love the concepts of space and space travel should enjoy the atmosphere at this restaurant.

Space 220 collectible trading cards

Space 220 trading cards

When we were invited to this event at Space 220, new trading cards were announced for the restaurant’s third year. Trading cards make a fun element of the Space 220 dining experience, especially for children.

These trading cards are designed exclusively for the restaurant. The trading card packs display intense illustrations and contain unique trivia about space exploration, planets, and menu items at Space 220. The cards are only available “officially” when purchasing a kids’ meal or zero-proof cocktail.

However, for the third anniversary, Space 220 decided to give collectors a chance to complete their set. Starting today, guests can get reprinted versions of the exclusive trading cards from each of the previous eight series of trading cards. The reissue trading card packs include five cards from Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, or Neptune. A complete list can be found on the restaurant’s website.

New Space 220 menu items

In addition to trading card news, Space 220 unveiled new menu items for guests. We received a sneak peek during our visit. These new (and reimagined) menu items will be available at Space 220 on Oct. 14, 2024. During our visit, we sampled all of the new menu items.

Desserts (or ‘SuperNova Sweets’) at Space 220

Space 220 new dessert menu

The new menu will include five new (or reimagined desserts). These desserts are:

The Capella — This dessert draws inspiration from one of the brightest stars in the universe. It consists of a cranberry-orange blondie topped with maple mousse and orange curd.

Lunar Carrot Cake — This reimagined dessert provides a quality vegan option with vegan cream cheese and candied pistachios.

Sol — This dessert is themed after the sun. It consists of a chocolate tart, a coffee sponge cake, hazelnut crunch, cherry gel, and a hazelnut cremeux (a pourable custard similar to a mousse).

Cosmic Cheesecake — This gluten-free dessert offers an interactive experience. Guests crack the outer chocolate shell, revealing the chocolate cheesecake inside.

Bode’s Swirl — This lemon chiffon cake with berry compote brings a non-traditional texture and flavor to theme park table-service dining. Of course, we are dining in space, so we should expect something different. The toasted marshmallow meringue enhances the presentation.

New appetizers (or ‘Lift-Offs’)

We saw and tasted two new appetizers for guests starting Oct. 14, 2024.

Grow Zone Sprouts Salad — This dish contains roasted Brussels sprouts on whipped ricotta. Pickled onions, chives, and orange segments are also featured. Guests should expect an earthy fall flavor merged with the right amount of creaminess. The Brussels sprouts are tossed in a Dijon maple vinaigrette to create a unique flavor. This will replace the Big Bang Burrata. This item qualifies as vegan and gluten-free.

Neptune Tartare — Space 220 updated its tuna tartare dish for its third anniversary. This appetizer displays an Indian street food technique. The tuna tartare is piped inside the shell with mango, yuzu, and soy to complete the presentation. An avocado wasabi puree provides the final touches for guests to enjoy. Guests should expect a bit of “heat” with the wasabi and some sweetness with the mango. Based on preparation, this counts as a non-dairy item.

New entrees (or ‘Star Courses’) at Space 220

Like the appetizers, two new items will appear on the entree portion of the menu starting Oct. 14, 2024.

Mangala Roasted Chicken — As the chef explained during our visit, his staff strongly influenced the creation of the new menu items with Indian cuisine. This dish comes with very creamy coconut rice. The chicken is marinated with yogurt in tandoori style. Also, the chicken is paired with tomatoes, carrots, peppers, and sauce. Those opposed to “spicy heat” should not fear this dish. It contains some spice, but this should not be a problem with coconut rice and other components. This will replace the Slow Roasted Crystal Valley Chicken. This meets gluten-free requirements.

Nebula Grouper — This is a new fish item for the restaurant. The blackened grouper sits on a parsnip puree. The rosemary flavors stand out in a good way with this entree. As you might expect, it receives a seasoning of garlic and onions. Also, it is completed with a Swiss chard and walnut butter. This is replacing the Grilled Swordfish.

New drink: Space Age Key Lime Mule

Key Lime Mule

The Space Age Mule alcoholic beverage will soon receive a Florida makeover. It will become the Space Age Key Lime Mule. This beverage offers a subtle key lime flavor. During our visit, some colleagues compared it to a Sprite for grown-ups.

October 14 is the day

While the trading cards are available today, these new Space 220 menu items will be available to all guests starting Oct. 14, 2024. At that time, guests can enjoy these and the returning items while visiting “220 miles in space.” Which of these new items most appeals to you? Let us know in the comments below.
