‘Star Wars’ exhibit coming to The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art this Sept. in L.A.
Beginning Sept. 22, 2026, Star Wars fans in Los Angeles, CA will be able to enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at movie props and more in the exhibit, ‘Star Wars in Motion’ at the new Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.

George Lucas and Mellody Hobson recently founded The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. On Sept. 22, 2026 guests and fans can explore eighteen thematic exhibitions.
Perhaps the most anticipated of those exhibits is ‘Star Wars in Motion.’ Anyone who has found themselves saying, “this is the Way,” or recently celebrated the holiday May the Fourth may want to add this stop to their Star Wars bucket list.
Considering this is George Lucas’s museum, it makes sense that this Star Wars exhibit is the first cinema exhibition for the new museum, featuring movie props, costumes, original film art, and more. The other seventeen exhibits will feature art from stories, comics, children’s books, and a variety of artists, all through the lens of narrative styles.
One of the movie props that fans can expect to see is Luke’s Landspeeder from the very first Star Wars film: “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.” For those who can’t help but respond to “Hello there,” with a “General Kneobi!” in their best Grievous voice, the first physical build of General Grievous’ Wheel Bike will also be on display. This was seen in the third prequel movie, “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.”

What’s inside the museum
With eighteen different exhibits, there will be over 1,200 installed works of art in over thirty galleries. Some artists featured include Jessie Willcox Smith, Norman Rockwell, Beatrix Potter, Alison Bechdel, and Frida Kahlo. Works from a wide variety of art, including comic book art, children’s book art, cinema art, and more, can be explored.
The goal of the museum is to explore how different stories can connect us all, and create a universal shared experience. “Stories are mythology, and when illustrated, they help humans understand the mysteries of life,” said George Lucas, co-founder of the museum, and creator of Star Wars. Additionally, Lucas Museum co-founder Mellody Hobson said, “Our hope is that as people move through the galleries, they will see themselves, and their humanity, reflected back.”
A new Los Angeles landmark
The museum is inside a 300,000 square-foot building on an eleven-acre campus. Inside will be two theaters, a library, options to purchase food, and community spaces. The exterior is distinct with a curved multi-level structure and rooftop gardens. Los Angeles now has a new landmark added to its collection with the addition of this campus.
Ma Yansong, the founder of MAD Architects, designed the building. Mia Lehrer of Studio-MLA designed the gardens that are sure to delight visitors.
The museum’s Instagram account is a great place to get a sense of the visual delights that await.
Batuu at Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland isn’t far, far away
Those visiting ‘Star Wars in Motion’ will only be about two hours away from Galaxy’s Edge in Anaheim, CA. Here, fans can be completely immersed in the fandom. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge takes you to the edge of the galaxy on the planet Batuu.
Two themed rides (three if you include Star Tours found in Tomorrowland) launch guests on distinct adventures, including a soon-to-be-reimagined ‘Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run.’
And the adventures continue in a variety of immersive spaces like Oga’s Cantina, Droid Depot, Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities, and so much more. Beware of Stormtroopers as you sip your blue milk, or better yet, you may even encounter Darth Vader.

For those looking for some theme park fun a bit closer to the Museum, head to Universal Studios Hollywood.
