Universal’s Fast & Furious coaster will direct rider screams away from neighbors

Universal Studios Hollywood previously announced a new Fast & Furious roller coaster will be coming to the park’s Upper Lot, but new details reveal how Universal plans to reduce the coaster’s noise for nearby neighborhoods.

Universal Studios Hollywood currently only has one outdoor roller coaster – the family-friendly Flight of the Hippogriff – which is insulated within The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade; however, the new high-speed Fast & Furious-themed terrain coaster will be located towards the edge of the park’s hilltop footprint with populated areas below.

Because of that geography, Universal is taking great care to design the new attraction with the following commitments to the community:

The ride itself will also employ several features to reduce noise for nearby homes and businesses, including track shields and cars that rotate 360 degrees to turn riders (and their screams) away from neighbors.

In addition to 360-degree rotating ride vehicles, we learned the new Fast & Furious coaster will feature two 16-person trains moving through the track simultaneously. The report also confirms rumors that the track will cross over the Starway escalators above the Jurassic World area in the park’s Lower Lot.

Concept artwork shows Universal also plans to use rock work to camouflage the ride’s show building.

Last but certainly not least, the community impact report references Universal’s 25-year “Evolution Plan,” suggesting additional expansion is already planned (and approved) for the theme park.

Universal Studios Hollywood already has Fast & Furious: Supercharged as part of its studio Tour. Check out our POV video below:
