D23 Movies and television entertainment showcase news announcements 2026

The ballroom came to D23 as “Dancing with the Stars” performers took the stage to kick things off, bringing some dazzling moves to the Disney Entertainment Showcase during a celebration of the company’s television lineup.

“Zootopia 2” stars Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan are serving as hosts of the D23 Disney Entertainment Showcase. Goodwin voices Judy Hopps in the animated sequel, while Quan joined the franchise as Gary De’Snake.

“Frozen 3” gets a first look

12:46 a.m. ET update: Disney revealed a first look at “Frozen 3,” which is set to arrive in theaters in fall 2027. Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel took the D23 stage to discuss the third film and perform, while new imagery showed Anna, Kristoff, Elsa and Olaf together against a colorful, mysterious landscape.

The presentation follows the “Frozen 3” display and story teases already spotted on the D23 show floor, giving us our most substantial look yet at the next chapter.

“Hexed” includes Jodie Foster and Walton Goggins

12:41 a.m. ET update: Disney also showcased “Hexed,” with Jodie Foster and Walton Goggins joining the voice cast. Foster voices the film’s villain, while D23 also offered a first look at Goggins’ character.

The new footage and artwork give the movie a distinctly magical, slightly spooky aesthetic — a fitting addition to Disney Animation’s upcoming slate.

Disney Animation announces “Clay” and “Zootopia 3”

12:35 a.m. ET update: Walt Disney Animation Studios unveiled “Clay,” a new original animated movie, during its D23 presentation, offering a first glimpse at its colorful world and characters. Disney also officially announced “Zootopia 3,” confirming that Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde and the world of Zootopia will continue with a third theatrical adventure.

Starfighter takes flight

12:27 a.m. ET update: Ryan Gosling will play Kade Auberon in “Star Wars: Starfighter,” coming to theaters May 28, 2027. Gosling joined director Shawn Levy onstage at D23 as the upcoming “Star Wars” film took the spotlight.

Asohka returns

12:21 a.m. ET update: “Ahsoka” Season 2 will premiere Jan. 20, 2027, on Disney+. Rosario Dawson, Eman Esfandi and Hayden Christensen joined Dave Filoni on the D23 stage to celebrate the upcoming season.

Dr. Doom and X-Men

12:18 a.m. ET update: Marvel Studios revealed a major wave of casting for its new “X-Men” movie, coming to theaters May 5, 2028. Kit Connor will play Cyclops, Christopher Abbott is Professor X, Inde Navarrette is Rogue, Maya Boyd is Storm, Samara Weaving is Emma Frost and Adam Driver will play Mister Sinister.

12:15 a.m. ET update: Marvel Studios unveiled a major wave of casting for its new “X-Men” movie, coming to theaters May 5, 2028. Kit Connor will play Cyclops, Christopher Abbott is Professor X, Inde Navarrette is Rogue, Samara Weaving is Emma Frost and Adam Driver will play Mister Sinister.

12:11 a.m. ET update: Marvel Studios officially unveiled its new “X-Men” movie at D23, including its logo and a May 5, 2028 theatrical release date. Kit Connor will play Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops, in the new generation of X-Men.

12:06 a.m. ET update: Marvel Studios shared a new look at Doctor Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday,” showing the villain seated on his throne. The film arrives in theaters Dec. 18.

VisionQuest

12:05 a.m. ET update: Marvel revealed a new look at “VisionQuest,” including the return of Ultron. The Disney+ series premieres Oct. 14.

11:59 p.m. ET update: Marvel Studios revealed the first artwork for “VisionQuest,” coming to Disney+ in October.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit comes home

11:50 p.m. ET update: Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is returning in a three-part Disney+ miniseries arriving in February 2027. Jon Favreau described it as a “dream project,” combining fully hand-drawn 2D animation with live-action footage and bringing several veteran 2D Disney animators back to the studio.

Live-action Rapunzel and Eugene in 2028

11:43 p.m. ET update: Disney’s live-action “Tangled” is coming to theaters March 31, 2028. The reimagining brings Rapunzel and Flynn Rider’s animated adventure into live action.

But it is Mother Gothel who steals the show when Kathryn Hahn arrives on stage. Then glowing lanterns descended from the arena’s ceiling.

Bluey gets her own movie

11:33 p.m. ET update: Bluey is heading to the big screen with a new look. D23 audiences got a first look at “The Bluey Movie,” revealing Bluey, Bingo and their world reimagined in 3D animation for the theatrical film, arriving in August 2027.

The next “Ice Age” movie

11:31 p.m. ET update: The herd is back! “Ice Age: Boiling Point,” the sixth movie in the “Ice Age” franchise, is coming exclusively to theaters Feb. 5, 2027.

“Coco 2” Pixar’s sequel

11:24 p.m. ET update: Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter returned to the D23 stage for “Coco 2,” where Benjamin Bratt confirmed he will reprise his role as Ernesto de la Cruz.

The Pixar sequel is coming to theaters in November 2029.

Percy Jackson’s return

11:20 p.m. ET update: Disney+ released a new trailer for “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” Season 3 during the D23 showcase. The new season, based on “The Titan’s Curse,” premieres Nov. 20 and sends Percy on a mission to find Annabeth and stop the Titans.

Romy and Michele are back in fashion

11:17 p.m. ET update: 20th Century Studios brought Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino to the D23 stage for “Romy and Michele 2,” reuniting the stars nearly 30 years after “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.”

“Lilo and Stitch 2” May 2028

11:10 p.m. ET update: The live-action “Lilo & Stitch 2” is coming in May 2028, and fan-favorite Experiment 624 — better known as Angel — will appear in the sequel.

Angel’s growing presence across Disney suddenly makes even more sense: The character recently joined “Disney On Ice” and has also appeared during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World.

Pixar’s “Gato”

11:05 p.m. ET update: Pixar shared a new look at “Gatto,” which follows a black cat in Venice with a love of music who is shunned by locals because of superstitions surrounding black cats.

Kid content creator movie “Ghost Market”

11:01 p.m. ET update: Pixar revealed “Ghost Market,” a new original film coming in spring 2028. The story follows a young content creator who, while in Hawaii, stumbles upon a mysterious and spooky ghost market.

Kingdom Hearts game and series

10:58 p.m. ET update: “Kingdom Hearts IV” is coming in late 2027 and will feature a world inspired by Disney and Pixar’s “Coco.” A separate “Kingdom Hearts” series is also coming to Disney+.

“The Incredibles 3” = kids’ night out

10:54 p.m. ET update: Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter shared a new look at “Incredibles 3,” coming to theaters Summer 2028. The story will see Violet and Dash wanting to become full-fledged superheroes — and sneaking out at night to fight crime behind their parents’ backs.

“The Simpsons Movie” in theaters Sept. 2027

10:47 p.m. ET update: Dana Walden, president and chief creative officer of The Walt Disney Company, revealed a new “The Simpsons” movie coming to theaters in September 2027.

The first footage showed Homer chasing a historic runaway home run ball through Springfield.

“The Princess Diaries 3”

10:41 p.m. ET: Welcome back to Genovia! Anne Hathaway has taken the stage at the D23 Disney Entertainment Showcase to discuss “The Princess Diaries 3.”
