A surprise Halloween overlay is coming to Legoland’s Galacticoaster
The all-indoor coaster at the Legoland California and Florida Resorts will get seasonal elements just months after opening!
Legoland California and Florida are no strangers to celebrating the Halloween season. Each year, the parks throw annual Brick or Treat events on select weekends throughout the fall months. This year, the parks are adding a new offering to the lineup: all-new Halloween-themed custom spaceship elements on their newest attraction, Galacticoaster, which opened earlier this year. The ride immerses guests in an intergalactic adventure mixed with LEGO personality that’s fun for the whole family!
On Galacticoaster, guests work in teams of four to design their own spacecraft by digitally selecting LEGO elements for the nose, tail, wings and a special feature with more than 625 unique spacecraft combinations. This creation comes to life on Galacticoaster before their eyes!
Halloween overlay
The overlay brings 356 new Halloween LEGO elements to Galacticoaster. The same thrills the attraction is known for will still be there, just more festive for the season
Here are some of the new customization elements you’ll find on the attraction during the overlay:
- A Monster Fighters-inspired design with a galactic twist: Inspired by the LEGO® Monster Fighters theme, the vehicle features a festive design with a galactic color scheme. (Keep an eye on the back of the ship for a fun ghostly BOO!)
- A classic roadster-inspired front end: The nose of the ship is reminiscent of a classic roadster with an exposed engine, featuring six bone elements, which is a nod to the same elements that appeared on the 2012 LEGO® Lord Vampyre’s Hearse set (9464).
- A mischievous hood ornament: No Halloween-themed vehicle would be complete without an iconic hood ornament. In this case, it’s a Jack-O-Lantern! While the LEGO element is now commonly found in Halloween-themed sets, it was first introduced in 2015 as the Headless Horseman’s head in the LEGO Scooby-Doo line.

It’s currently unknown if this overlay will also bring changes to the ride’s visuals, audio, or other elements. Legoland California has confirmed this new overlay is here to stay for seasons to come, so if you don’t make it out this year, it’ll be there for you and your family next year and the years after!
Attractions Magazine reached out to Legoland Florida and confirmed the Halloween addition is coming to Florida’s Galacitcoaster too.
Customization experiences at theme parks
It’s impressive that such an ambitious overlay comes so soon after the introduction of the park’s newest land, LEGO Galaxy. The ride itself features a customization element, where riders can design their own spaceship that they’ll see and ride on the attraction, similar to the design your own car portion of Test Track 2.0 at Epcot in Walt Disney World.
One of the most notable quick turnarounds when it comes to seasonal overlays on indoor roller coasters was the addition of a Christmas song on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind back in the winter of 2022, which was met with mixed reception.
