Minecraft reveals Escape the Nether indoor-outdoor roller coaster
Minecraft is bringing the Nether to life with an indoor-outdoor roller coaster at the world’s first Minecraft theme park land. New footage revealed during Minecraft LIVE on Sept. 26 showed Escape the Nether in action, along with real-world construction progress at Minecraft World, opening at Chessington World of Adventures in the United Kingdom in 2027.
Minecraft is bringing the Nether to life with an indoor-outdoor roller coaster at the world’s first Minecraft theme park land. New footage revealed during Minecraft LIVE on Sept. 26 showed Escape the Nether in action, along with real-world construction progress at Minecraft World, opening at Chessington World of Adventures in the United Kingdom in 2027.
The presentation paired an early visualization of the coaster with footage from the construction site, where sections of its distinctive red track have arrived. The attraction will send guests between outdoor Minecraft landscapes and an indoor experience inspired by the Nether.
Escape the Nether brings Minecraft’s dimensions to a roller coaster
Escape the Nether will be an indoor-outdoor roller coaster that takes riders between the familiar Overworld and the dangerous Nether. An early visualization shown during Minecraft LIVE depicts the coaster racing along bright red track through blocky outdoor landscapes before entering darker environments inspired by the Nether.
The footage shows track weaving around towering Minecraft-style terrain, oversized vegetation and other familiar elements from the game. Concept art also depicts riders inside a purple-lit environment, while construction footage confirmed that work on the attraction is already underway.
Minecraft has not yet announced the coaster’s height, speed, track length or ride duration.
Escape the Nether is part of a much larger effort to translate Minecraft from the screen into a physical destination. Minecraft LIVE also shared new looks at other parts of the development, including its themed hotel and dining experiences, as work continues toward the land’s 2027 opening.
Minecraft World is a $50 million theme park project
Minecraft World was first announced during Minecraft LIVE in March as a £50 million development at Chessington World of Adventures near London. Scheduled to open in 2027, it will be the first Minecraft land at a major theme park.
The project is being developed through a partnership between Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios and is part of a broader investment in bringing Minecraft attractions to the United Kingdom and United States.
Previously announced plans for Minecraft World included a world-first Minecraft roller coaster, interactive adventures, block-built play areas, themed dining and retail. The land will draw from familiar Minecraft biomes, mobs and items, translating elements of the game into physical environments.
The Nether may be taking shape, but Minecraft still has plenty more to build before opening day.
