Minecraft is moving into American Dream — but it won’t stay forever

East Rutherford, N.J. — “Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue” will open Nov. 13 at American Dream, bringing the video game’s block-filled Overworld to life through an hour-long interactive adventure for a limited engagement.

For a while, at least, American Dream is adding another major block to its growing collection of attractions. Guests will be able to step beyond the screen and into the Overworld, gathering resources, encountering familiar mobs and working together on a quest to save Minecraft villagers. And just like a carefully built Minecraft world, visitors shouldn’t assume it will be there forever.

What happens inside Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue

“Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue” takes guests on an approximately one-hour journey through eight interactive Minecraft realms.

The adventure begins in a forest, where participants learn how to navigate the experience before entering a village and receiving their mission. From there, groups work together to collect resources needed to craft a potion and save the villagers.

Guests use an Orb of Interaction, a glowing handheld device that guides them through the experience and allows them to interact with the world around them.

Along the way, familiar Minecraft creatures appear throughout the realms. Guests can encounter pandas and dolphins before facing more dangerous mobs, including skeletons, spiders and, of course, Creepers.

No previous knowledge of “Minecraft” is required, according to organizers. The attraction is designed for both established players and people unfamiliar with the game.

Minecraft Experience tickets and opening date

“Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue” opens Nov. 13 at American Dream. Tickets go on sale Oct. 1 through the Minecraft Experience website.

Individual tickets start at $36, while friends-and-family multipack tickets start at $32 per person.

Unlike many of American Dream’s permanent attractions, however, Minecraft isn’t moving in for good. Experience MOD and Mojang Studios describe the American Dream stop as a limited engagement, with no closing date announced.

The New Jersey opening is part of a touring production.

“American Dream is where the world’s most exciting brands and experiences come to life, and Minecraft Experience is a perfect addition to our growing lineup of immersive attractions for families and fans of all ages,” Roy Ghermezian, principal at Triple Five Group, said in a statement provided to Attractions Magazine.

American Dream continues expanding its attraction lineup

American Dream is home to Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park, DreamWorks Water Park, Legoland Discovery Center, Sea Life Aquarium, Big Snow and several other ticketed attractions alongside its retail and dining offerings.

And Minecraft isn’t the only video game property on the way.

A “Five Nights at Freddy’s”-themed Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza is planned for American Dream. The location will bring the fictional pizzeria from the games and movies into the real world as another immersive experience at the complex.

The new additions come at an interesting time for American Dream. The New Jersey destination recently appeared among the top 10 on a list of America’s most “overrated” tourist attractions.

Now, Minecraft can be added to that list. While Villager Rescue won’t be a permanent new block in American Dream’s build, it gives visitors another reason to return beginning Nov. 13.
