Something is stirring inside Six Flags Great Adventure’s mysterious new purple coaster

Something has arrived at Six Flags Great Adventure, and whatever is inside does not appear willing to remain contained.

The New Jersey theme park released the second teaser for its upcoming Project Purple attraction July 17. A security report is followed by a loud thump from inside, suggesting that something living—or potentially dangerous—may be hiding within the cargo. The developing story centers on a mysterious shipping container that has washed ashore along The Boardwalk, where Six Flags is preparing to reveal the official identity of its massive new roller coaster on July 28, 2026.

Project Purple is the codename for a record-breaking multi-launch roller coaster under construction at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. Scheduled to open in 2027, the attraction had reached 315 feet by June 2026, making it the tallest structure currently standing at the park, although Six Flags has not disclosed its final height, complete layout, manufacturer or official name.

Is a sea creature trapped inside Project Purple?

The two Project Purple teasers have led some coaster enthusiasts to suspect that the attraction will have a sea creature or maritime monster theme. The story began with a mysterious shipping container washing ashore along The Boardwalk, accompanied by warnings about dangerous sea creatures and references to missing cargo.

The second video deepens the mystery as crews attempt to move the container. Strange purple light escapes from inside before a loud thump interrupts a security report, strongly suggesting that something large — and possibly alive — is trapped within it. The seaside setting also connects the developing story to Shoreline Pier, the Boardwalk district that opened earlier this year.

Fans are examining markings on the container for additional clues. “GVV” has inspired guesses including “Gargantuan Vertical Vengeance,” although some believe it is simply the name of a fictional shipping company or deliberate misdirection. Another marking, “B-728,” may reference The Boardwalk and the attraction’s July 28 reveal date. Others have suggested that the “B” could stand for “behemoth,” potentially hinting at the size or identity of the creature inside.

A meaningful collaboration

The attraction also supports Project Purple, a nonprofit organization dedicated to pancreatic cancer awareness, patient assistance and research funding. Six Flags Great Adventure announced the partnership in May and plans to hold fundraising initiatives and special events through the coaster’s opening. The collaboration has personal significance for park President Mike Fehnel, whose father died from pancreatic cancer.

“This partnership is especially meaningful to me personally, having lost my father to pancreatic cancer,” said park president Mike Fehnel in the announcement.

Project Purple rises near the former Kingda Ka site

Six Flags has not yet revealed the coaster’s manufacturer, complete layout or official name, but its construction is now a commanding presence near The Boardwalk. The project appears closely connected to the former Kingda Ka area following the record-breaking coaster’s closure in 2025.

Six Flags will reveal Project Purple on July 28

The mystery is scheduled to reach its next chapter Tuesday, July 28, when Six Flags Great Adventure hosts a special announcement event at the park.

The presentation will reveal the attraction’s official name and story, along with additional information about the coaster. Until then, the shipping container will remain on The Boardwalk — provided whatever is making that noise stays inside.
