Six Flags Magic Mountain restores historic coaster name for America 250, park’s 50th anniversary
Six Flags Magic Mountain is bringing back a historic name for one of its most important roller coasters as The New Revolution turns 50.

As theme parks across the country begin rolling out early America 250 celebrations, Six Flags Magic Mountain is tying the milestone to one of its most historic attractions.
The park will restore the original name, “The Great American Revolution,” to its iconic looping coaster as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. The ride first opened on May 8, 1975, and made history as the world’s first modern looping roller coaster, later earning designation as a landmark by American Coaster Enthusiasts.
It’s part of an industry trend: parks are increasingly leaning on legacy attractions as part of major milestones, whether through reimaginings, refreshed effects, or—as in this case—a return to original storytelling and branding tied to Americana.

Is the coaster being revamped?
Not in a major way. Unlike recent large-scale ride updates across the industry, this is a patriotic, celebration-focused rebranding and update, not a structural or experiential overhaul.

The coaster has seen updates in the past (including its “New Revolution” iteration with onboard audio). This time, the focus is on restoring the original name, highlighting its historical significance and aligning with America 250 messaging.
