Milestone for new Six Flags coaster opening in 2027, replacing Kingda Ka
Six Flags Great Adventure reached a milestone for its new roller coaster opening in 2027, delayed from 2026.

Six Flags shared photos on Feb. 18, 2026, of roller coaster track pieces arriving onsite at the park in Jackson Township, N.J., for a new ride.
Tape visible in the photos is labeled with words that translate from German to say “Switch 1, Direction of travel RIGHT,” indicating where the piece fits within the coaster’s layout.

The new coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure will open in 2027. Other details, including a name, remain unannounced for the time being.
Back in 2024, Six Flags said “a multi-world-record-breaking launch roller coaster” would open at Six Flags Great Adventure in 2026. This is presumably that same ride, delayed by one year. The new ride follows the 2024 permanent closure and subsequent demolition of Kingda Ka, the tallest and fastest roller coaster on the planet. Six Flags first announced the upcoming coaster on the same day it revealed Kingda Ka was permanently closed without prior notice to guests.

As for the 2026 season, which begins March 28, Six Flags Great Adventure guests can expect a smoother track on the El Toro wooden coaster and access to the adjacent Six Flags Wild Safari from within the Great Adventure park.
In addition to the new coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure, 2027 will also see the arrival of new rides at Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Carowinds. The company recently teased the marketing campaigns for both of those additions, but haven’t revealed major details just yet.
Six Flags merged with Cedar Fair in 2024. Together, the combined company owns a portfolio of over 50 parks. Personnel said as recently as November 2025 that selling or closing some of those parks is “priority.” In December 2025, Six Flags installed SeaWorld alum John Reilly as its new CEO, and big-picture changes to Six Flags as a corporation are already underway.
