Smithsonian Starstruck: An Immersive VR Experience Opens at Orlando’s Fever Hub
Explore the galaxy without ever leaving Earth with Smithsonian Starstruck: An Immersive Experience, a new virtual reality attraction now open at the Fever Hub in Orlando. Created in collaboration with the world-renowned Smithsonian Institution, the experience combines education, cinematic storytelling, and immersive virtual reality technology to take guests on a breathtaking journey from our own solar system to the farthest reaches of the cosmos.

Developed as both an educational adventure and a visual spectacle, Smithsonian Starstruck blends real scientific discoveries with immersive storytelling to make the vastness of space feel both accessible and awe-inspiring. The experience places guests at the center of the journey, allowing them to explore the universe from perspectives few people will ever experience firsthand.
A journey across the cosmos
The adventure begins at the Smithsonian’s Whipple Observatory before launching into space. From there, the experience travels throughout our solar system, visiting planets, moons, and other celestial landmarks before venturing even farther into the galaxy. Along the way, visitors encounter everything from our own Sun to distant nebulae and even the supermassive black hole believed to reside at the center of the Milky Way, each serving as another stop on an unforgettable cosmic voyage.
Using a virtual reality setup similar to the Machu Picchu: Journey to the Lost City experience and Titanic: A Voyage Through Time, previously featured at the Fever Hub, Smithsonian Starstruck equips guests with untethered VR headsets and allows them to move freely through a large open space during the approximately 40-minute experience. The untethered design creates a stronger sense of immersion, allowing participants to physically walk around many of the environments rather than remaining stationary.

A knowledgeable narrator serves as your guide throughout the adventure, explaining scientific discoveries, highlighting major landmarks, and helping put the immense scale of the universe into perspective. At several points, guests can interact with the environment to uncover additional information about the objects around them, adding just enough interactivity to complement the educational experience without distracting from it.
Science Meets Spectacle
Visually, the attraction does an excellent job of conveying both the beauty and sheer scale of space. The environments are inspired by real astronomical imagery and current scientific understanding, allowing guests to experience familiar celestial bodies from viewpoints that would otherwise be impossible. While artistic license is occasionally used to heighten the presentation, the experience remains firmly rooted in science and discovery.
It is worth noting that Smithsonian Starstruck is not designed as a thrill ride or action game. There are no high-speed space battles or arcade-style gameplay. The slower pace brings a sense of awe. It encourages exploration, curiosity, and reflection.
Space enthusiasts, aspiring astronomers, families, and anyone with an interest in science will likely appreciate its educational approach and cinematic presentation.
