The announcement was made Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, through Universal Orlando Resort’s official social media accounts.

According to Universal, the live show will explore more than 100 years of Hollywood horror movie special effects, spanning Universal’s classic monsters through the modern horror films of Blumhouse.

“In this live show, discover how Hollywood’s top special effects artists have terrified moviegoers for over 100 years — from Universal’s classic monsters to the modern horrors of Blumhouse,” Universal stated in its announcement.

The new production will carry the name Universal Horror Make-Up Show featuring Blumhouse.

Universal Horror Make-Up Show gets floor-to-ceiling transformation

Michael Aiello, a longtime Universal Orlando creative leader, shared additional details about the production on X following Friday’s announcement. Aiello said he had wanted to see the venue updated for years and that Universal’s leadership ultimately supported the project.

Much of what guests have enjoyed about the original show will remain, he explained, alongside new surprises and an extensive visual overhaul.

Aiello described the updated production as a tribute to 100 years of Universal horror, developed with Blumhouse, while retaining the show’s combination of horror and humor.

When will the new Universal Horror Make-Up Show debut?

Universal Orlando has not announced an opening date for the updated show.

When a guest asked about its expected debut on X, Universal Orlando replied, “Stay tuned for more information.” Additional details about the production, including what changes guests can expect, have not yet been revealed.

The previous Universal Orlando Horror Make-Up Show at Universal Studios Florida combined live demonstrations of movie makeup and special effects with comedy and audience participation, and has been closed since May 2026.

It is unclear how much of that format will carry over into the Blumhouse version.
