Miguel and family from ‘Coco’ debut as face characters at Disney Treasure restaurant
Miguel Rivera and his family debuted as face characters at Plaza de Coco, a restaurant onboard the Disney Treasure cruise ship.

The Plaza de Coco dinner show experience on the Disney Treasure features special appearances by characters from Pixar’s “Coco”: Miguel Rivera and his Abuelita, Papá, and Mamá, as well as Héctor and Mamá Imedla visiting from the afterlife in their skeletal form. As part of the proceedings, Miguel, of course, performs live music for everyone.
Miguel’s appearance on the new Disney cruise ship marks his debut as a face character (meaning the performer’s face is unobstructed by a costumed head) in a Disney theme park or cruise ship. Though Disney teased Miguel’s face-character look in promotional material for the Treasure (including at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2023), Plaza de Coco will be the first place Miguel will regularly appear for guests in his face-character form.
Additionally, Plaza de Coco on the Disney Treasure marks the character debuts of Abuelita, Papá, Mamá, Héctor, and Mamá Imelda in any form in a Disney park or cruise ship. True to the films, Miguel wears his boots. Note the detailed pattern designs in Miguel’s jeans and in Abuelita and Mamá’s dresses.
Later in the dinner show experience, Miguel appears in his mariachi outfit from the finale of “Coco.”

Miguel appears regularly in Disney theme parks as a non-face character, including in “Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade” at Magic Kingdom (pictured below) and a new holiday show for the 2024 season at Disney California Adventure. The character is also occasionally represented as a puppet (seen below in 2019 at Epcot).
Disney will break ground on its first “Coco” ride in 2026 at California Adventure.
