Sanrio’s character family includes Cinnamoroll, Kuromi, My Melody, Pompompurin and Gudetama, among others. The collaboration is described as a multi-year partnership, suggesting the 2027 launch is only the start of Lego’s plans for the characters.
When will the Lego Hello Kitty sets be released?
For now, Lego is only saying 2027. The company has, however, created a dedicated Sanrio page and says fans should return for monthly hints about what’s coming.
Here’s a look at the Instagram post sharing the news.

Hello Kitty’s world keeps expanding
Hello Kitty debuted in 1974 and has grown into a global character brand. According to Sanrio and Lego, Hello Kitty merchandise is now sold in more than 130 countries and regions, with approximately 50,000 types of merchandise sold annually.
Why is Hello Kitty suddenly everywhere?
The Lego announcement is the latest news in a busy period for Hello Kitty and the wider Sanrio character lineup.
In the U.S., McDonald’s launched a Hello Kitty and Friends x Godzilla Happy Meal on Aug. 18, 2026, featuring eight crossover toys. That followed its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Hello Kitty and Friends collection in August 2025.
And another fast-food collaboration may be close behind. Attractions Magazine previously reported on the possibility of a Burger King x Hello Kitty and Friends collection this fall.
The activity goes beyond toys and fast food. Sanrio launched a new global children’s YouTube channel in September featuring Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin, My Melody and other characters, and the company is expanding further into video games and entertainment.
Sanrio has laid out a long-term strategy to become what it calls a “Global IP Platform Provider,” with North America among its important growth markets. Its plans include more licensed merchandise, games, video and animation, U.S. flagship stores, immersive entertainment in North America and, longer term, additional theme park development through partnerships or licensing.
The current push also follows Hello Kitty’s 50th anniversary in 2024. Sanrio reported that anniversary initiatives and its strategy of promoting a broader range of characters helped increase licensing activity, with particularly strong growth in North America and China.
