D23 Expo 2019 will have plenty for fans to enjoy all weekend long, as Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar share exciting announcements, presentations, never-before-seen-footage, and more.
Here’s a detailed look at everything the studios will bring to the three-day event:
Behind-the-Scenes with The Walt Disney Studios and Pixar – Saturday, Aug. 24 at 10 a.m., Hall D23
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Chief Creative Officer Jennifer Lee and Pixar Animation Studios’ Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter will present never-before-seen footage and share exciting surprise announcements. Attendees will also see musical performances and appearances by voice talent from some of the upcoming animated films.
Some of the sneak peeks will include “Frozen 2,” as directors Chris Buck, Jennifer Lee, and producer Peter Del Vecho share new details from the film; as well as Pixar’s “Onward,” as director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae introduces the audience to the characters of the original film. Fans will also hear from Docter and producer Dana Murray about next summer’s original Pixar film, “Soul”.
All weekend long from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily on the show floor, the two studios will team up for an immersive animation activation. Fans will get the chance to learn more about “Frozen 2” and “Onward,” as well as get the chance to meet the teams behind the films and receive autographs with exclusive art – and take part in a promotional giveaway!
Attendees will also get to step inside a real-life version of Guinevere, the fan from Pixar’s “Onward”. Featuring crescent moon windows and a “Pegacorn” (part Pegasus, part unicorn) painted on the sides, Guinevere will give guests a sneak peek at the adventures to come for the two teenage elf brothers in the film.
The Little Mermaid: The 30th Anniversary Celebration – Sunday, Aug. 25, 10 a.m., D23 Expo Arena
Fans of the film are invited to celebrate its 30th anniversary at this special panel, hosted by the voice of Ariel herself, Jodi Benson.
Hidden Gems of the Walt Disney Animation Research Library: Preserving and Inspiring the Disney Legacy – Sunday, Aug. 25, 12 p.m., Walt Disney Archives Stage
The team at Walt Disney Animation Research Library (ARL) is responsible for preserving millions of pieces of original Disney Animation art, from “Steamboat Willie” to the modern films of today. Attendees will learn how the ARL shares these pieces of history, inspiring artists and fans alike.
World Premiere: Walt Disney Animation Studios Presents Short Circuit – Sunday, Aug. 25, 4 p.m., Stage 28
At this panel, Walt Disney Animation Studios will debut Short Circuit, an experimental short film program that will begin in spring 2020 on Disney+. Talented filmmakers and artists will get the chance to share their films for the first time anywhere, as well as give behind-the-scenes insights.
Single-day tickets for Friday and Sunday of D23 Expo 2019 are available for $89 for one-day adult admission and $69 for children ages 3-9. Gold Members of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club can purchase tickets for $77 for a one-day adult admission and $59 for children. Single-day Saturday tickets and three-day passes are sold out.
