All the new roller coasters opening in 2027
The new roller coasters lined up for 2027 might be the most creative in years. Here are the confirmed coasters coming in the United States, plus a few international standouts.

New roller coasters for 2027
The 2027 lineup of new roller coasters is a thrilling collection of interesting projects. A quick word of caution: most parks have only promised “sometime in 2027,” so every opening window below is subject to change. Construction schedules are more like weather forecasts than train timetables.
New coasters at Six Flags parks
Six Flags has four coasters in the 2027 class, covering various roller coaster types and styles, from a 382-foot record-chaser to a suspended coaster the younger ones can ride.
Bakunawa at Six Flags Great Adventure
Six Flags Great Adventure pulled the curtain back on Project Purple on July 28. It turns out the mysterious shipping container used in the teaser material was hiding a sea serpent. Bakunawa is named for a sea serpent from Philippine folklore said to devour the moon, and the coaster will rise 382 feet above the park’s Boardwalk area while reaching 100 mph.

Six Flags is calling Bakunawa the world’s tallest and fastest spinning launch coaster. It has three launches, including what the park says is the first upside-down launch on any coaster. Its floorless trains spin freely, so no two ride experiences are exactly alike. It also has the unenviable job of stepping into the spot left by Kingda Ka.
- Location: Jackson, New Jersey
- Height: 382 feet
- Top speed: 100 mph
- Track length: 3,163 feet
- Minimum height: 48 inches

Thrill Glider at Six Flags Magic Mountain
Six Flags Magic Mountain’s new coaster was originally due in 2026, slid to 2027, and got its official name and details on Sept. 10. Thrill Glider is a Vekoma creation that mashes together flying, motorbike, and suspended coaster technology.
Riders board individual hovercycles and ride face forward, prone beneath the track.

The layout runs 3,380 feet with multiple launches up to 50 mph, five inversions, and 12 airtime moments, all packed into about 80 seconds. Six Flags says it is an entirely new coaster category (the “Thrillglider”), which conveniently means it will be the first, longest, fastest, and tallest one ever built.
The ride is going up on the former Golden Bear Theatre site between Full Throttle and Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom. It will have a 48-inch height requirement.
- Location: Valencia, California
- Manufacturer: Vekoma
- Track length: 3,380 feet
- Top speed: 50 mph
- Inversions: Five (wing over, zero g roll, overbanked stall turn, barrel roll, and upward barrel roll)

Werewolf Gorge at Six Flags Fiesta Texas
Fiesta Texas celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2027, and it’s marking the occasion with a howler. Werewolf Gorge is a Vekoma family launch coaster that stretches 4,120 feet through the park’s quarry setting, making it the longest coaster in park history. Werewolf Gorge will serve as the longest family launch coaster in the world, according to Six Flags.

The ride has four launches, a mid-course rollback, 32 floater airtime moments, and a top speed of 45 mph, with a height requirement of just 39 inches.
The story centers on a mysterious Texas quarry, cryptid museums, and an eccentric entrepreneur named Jasper Bunyan. So, conspiracy theorists will love this. Construction officially kicked off with an Aug. 27 groundbreaking, and the park calls it its largest single-attraction investment in history.
- Location: San Antonio, Texas
- Manufacturer: Vekoma
- Track length: 4,120 feet
- Minimum height: 39 inches

Sky Hawk at Six Flags Great America
The suspended family coaster coming to Six Flags Great America now has a name. Sky Hawk is the centerpiece of Camp Timber Trail, a new woodland-themed family area taking over parts of Yukon Territory and Camp Cartoon in Gurnee, Illinois.

Built by Vekoma, Sky Hawk will be the Midwest’s longest, tallest, and fastest suspended family coaster, at 67 feet tall, 1,220 feet long, and 33 mph.
Additionally, Camp Timber Trail will have nine attractions in total: three new (Sky Hawk, Trail Trotters and Forest Grove Play Park), four rethemed rides (including the family coaster formerly known as Sprocket Rockets, now Chirp Chaser) and two classics, Little Dipper and Logger’s Run.

New roller coaster at Universal Orlando in 2027
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift at Universal Studios Florida
Universal Studios Hollywood’s version of Hollywood Drift officially opened Sept. 16, so Florida fans can start comparing notes and feeling jealous.
The Orlando version is a different animal, with its own layout and one big added feature: a 170-foot vertical spike that sends riders nearly 17 stories up over the edge of Universal CityWalk Orlando. At 170 feet, it will be the tallest coaster at Universal Orlando, edging out the old Rip Ride Rockit lift hill by three feet.

The new Intamin coaster takes over the footprint of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which closed in August 2025 and was quickly removed to make way for this new roller coaster. Riders climb into cars that rotate 360 degrees to create the drifting sensation.
Construction of the track layout wrapped up Aug. 3, and pull-through testing started in mid-September. Universal Orlando Resort has only said 2027 for the opening date.
- Location: Universal Studios Florida, Orlando
- Manufacturer: Intamin
- Signature element: 170-foot vertical spike
- Replaces: Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit

More new roller coasters for 2027: United States
The following new 2027 roller coasters will reside at parks not owned by Disney, Universal, or Six Flags.
Miner’s Mountain Express at Silver Dollar City
Miner’s Mountain Express replaces Thunderation, the Arrow Dynamics mine train that opened in 1993 and has carried more than 27 million riders. Thunderation is closing Jan. 2, 2027, and while Miner’s Mountain Express resides in a different part of the mountainous park, it fits the family coaster slot.
The coaster is part of a $150 million investment that also includes the 262-room Silver Dollar City Resort, opening in 2027.

This new Mack Rides family coaster sends riders in runaway mine cars across a new area called Daredevil Pass, with two lift hills, fifteen airtime moments, and a plunge past a flooded mine shaft while searching for a lost entrance to Marvel Cave. It will be the longest family coaster in the Midwest, with 3,553 feet of track and a 97-foot maximum height, and riders as short as 39 inches can board with an adult.

Forbidden Lair at Lost Island Theme Park
Iowa’s Lost Island is getting the first-ever Wild Moose coaster from Rocky Mountain Construction. Yes, there was a “moose on the loose” teaser campaign. Forbidden Lair is a family shuttle coaster. So, riders are pulled backward out of the station and up a lift spike, released through airtime hills and turns, then repeat the trip in the other direction. The layout is 910 feet long, tops out at 38 mph, has 11 airtime moments, and requires riders to be 39 inches tall. It will be the park’s fifth coaster. It should serve as a middle step between the kiddie Lokolo coaster and the park’s thrill coasters.
Cannonball! at Holiday World
Holiday World gets the splashiest entry on our list – pun intended. Cannonball! is a $22 million Mack Rides water roller coaster, the largest single attraction investment in park history, set to open in May 2027.
Riders board one of the eight-passenger floats decorated like novelty inner tubes, climb a 90-foot lift hill, zip through more than 1,000 feet of coaster track at up to 45 mph, and finish with a 75-foot drop into a pool. Thematically, Holiday World wants guests to imagine a cannonball diving contest where your group works together to win.

Holiday World says it will be the fastest water roller coaster in the country, with the nation’s tallest drop, and the first of its kind in the Midwest. The height requirement is 42 inches with an adult or 48 inches to ride alone.

Eagle’s Pursuit at Waldameer & Water World (opening summer 2027)
Erie, Pennsylvania’s Waldameer is adding its sixth coaster, and its first from Vekoma. Eagle’s Pursuit is a family launch coaster built into the hillside overlooking Lake Erie, with two magnetic launches, a 60-foot elevation change, 1,885 feet of track, and a top speed of 46 mph.
The minimum height is 38 inches, and the park says it opens in summer 2027.
Forbidden Lair at Lost Island Themepark
Lost Island Themepark in Waterloo, Iowa, will add Forbidden Lair in 2027, a family shuttle coaster from Rocky Mountain Construction. With a minimum rider height of 39 inches, the ride is designed for families to share the adventure. The park says more details are still to come.
New coasters around the world
We kept the international list to five standouts, with two Disney roller coasters, a Nordic surprise, a South American game-changer, and a recently announced IP-based coaster in the UK.
Space Mountain Earthrise at Tokyo Disneyland
Tokyo Disneyland’s original Space Mountain opened with the park in 1983 and closed for good in July 2024. Its replacement, officially named Space Mountain Earthrise, is a ground-up rebuild with a new building, a new ride system, and a new story. It remains an indoor coaster.
The journey begins with a launch from Earth into space, complete with light and sound effects inspired by cosmic phenomena. It will also be the first coaster at Tokyo Disney Resort with an onboard audio system.

The coaster is part of a roughly 100-billion-yen Tomorrowland transformation that also includes Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, a Wreck-It Ralph attraction opening in spring 2027, plus a new Tomorrowland Plaza.
Spider-Man coaster at Shanghai Disneyland
Shanghai Disneyland is building the first-ever Spider-Man roller coaster, and it will anchor a new Spider-Man-themed land next to Zootopia. It is the park’s first major Marvel attraction. Construction broke ground in May 2025, and the final piece of track was installed in June 2026.
The coaster’s story connects to the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (W.E.B.) from Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure, with riders helping Spider-Man handle a giant Spider-Bot of his own creation. At this point, we think Peter Parker needs some supervision when building Spider-Bots! Disney has announced a 2027 opening but has not revealed the coaster’s official name.
Midgårdsormen at Djurs Sommerland, Denmark
Djurs Sommerland is adding the park’s first-ever inversions with Midgårdsormen, an Intamin Hot Racer single-rail coaster and the first of its kind in Northern Europe.
Named for the Midgard Serpent of Norse mythology, it will be the park’s tenth coaster and the centerpiece of an expanded Vikingeland area. The 603-meter layout has two launches, three inversions, and a top speed of 75 km/h (about 47 mph), and riders must be at least 120 centimeters (about 3 feet 11 inches) tall. The investment is more than 14 million euros.
Dreams at Cacau Park: Brazil’s Flagship Coaster
This new 2027 roller coaster will anchor the ambitious new Cacau Park resort in Itu, São Paulo. Dreams at Cacau Park is positioning itself as a game-changer for South American themed entertainment. Developed by leading Brazilian chocolate manufacturer Cacau Show, the resort spans over seven million square meters, but its crown jewel is unquestionably this record-breaking thrill ride.
Engineered by Vekoma, Dreams at Cacau Park claims the title of Latin America’s tallest and fastest roller coaster. Standing an imposing 55 meters (180 feet) tall, the coaster uses a Linear Synchronous Motor (LSM) launch system to propel riders from zero to 120 km/h (72.7 mph) in seconds. Along its nearly 3,000-foot circuit, the ride packs in four dynamic inversions. This includes a Top Hat element, Step-Up Under Flip, Barrel Roll Downdrop, and Stalled Immelmann.
Escape the Nether: new Minecraft coaster
Minecraft fans are preparing to Escape the Nether like never before. The highly anticipated “Escape the Nether” roller coaster will anchor the world’s first Minecraft theme park land at Chessington World of Adventures in the United Kingdom. Scheduled for a 2027 debut, this groundbreaking attraction will bridge the gap between digital gaming and real-world thrills.

Developed through a partnership between Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios, the roller coaster is part of a £50 million investment into physical Minecraft experiences across the UK and the United States.
The ride will feature a unique indoor-outdoor design. Guests will swoop through outdoor Minecraft biomes before plunging into an immersive indoor environment designed to replicate the Nether. Alongside the attraction, the new Minecraft World will introduce themed hotel rooms, retail spaces, block-built play zones, and dining experiences rooted in the game’s iconic universe.
